Rifle Scopes Sun Shades?

Thinking about getting one of the Vortex scopes.

Does the sunshade for $30 provide much benefit?

My "Vortex Viper PST 4-16 FFP MRAD" came with a sunshade in the box.

With and without it in normal conditions I do not notice a difference. But, aiming West (Where I hunt coyotes) around Dusk I find it helps a lot.

As such, I just leave it screwed in all the time. I do not notice any negatives to having it attached when not needed, even at night.
