Hey guys,

Looking for some feedback on the 20x Super Sniper. I am planning on a dedicated target rifle using a 6mm bullet of some form or another. I want something "budget" but decent and I figured since it is going to be a target rifle, maybe fixed is the way to go. Probably going to go a with a Bull barrel in 6MM BR, but that isn't set in stone

One of my concerns with the 20x is the eye relief, eye box, and light transmission. I have a buddy with a 10x Super Sniper and I think that is an amazing scope.

Any feedback on the 20x Super Sniper would be great, but if you think it is a no go, dont be afraid to tell me.

For the price its extremely hard to beat. In fact I'd say it's impossible to beat for under 800.00 when you get to the PSTs. The down side is the same with any 20x fixed scope and heat mirrage will kick your butt if the conditions are right. Some of them also come in and are a bit fuzy on the image. If you get a fuzy one send it back and ask for a new one as some are clean from the factory and some aren't.

Good Luck,
Merritt

never used the SS but I too don't like finding stuff with a 20X and the mirage can be an issue. I wouldn't hesitate with a 16X fixed in general but for a range I think the 20 could work. I like my stuff to work for hunting too though.

i had one on my remmy 700 tactical 308 and liked it alot, also have the 16 and 10 and liked them as well, now i got the 5-20hd and couldnt be happier. i really like swfa products.

Re: Super Sniper 20x Go or No Go?

In the near future SWFA will be coming out with a mil/mil version of their fixed power SS scopes with their milquad reticle.

I liked my 16x better than my 20x. Brighter with a larger FOV, mirage was easier to deal with.

Re: Super Sniper 20x Go or No Go?

16x was another one that crossed my mind. I dont ever plan on shooting 1000 yards, but maybe 700-800. Would the 16x be enough to get me there? And yes I know there are some 1000 yard shooters that prefer 10x, but I am by no means a marine sniper...

As far as the mil/mil Super Snipers go, I saw those, but I am an MOA guy, call me old fashioned. I am jealous of all of the good options though the Mil/Mil crowd is getting these days....

Re: Super Sniper 20x Go or No Go?

I agree with most of the guys here that the 16X is a little better option simply due to mirage issues. I am running a SS 10X on my precision rifle right now because I needed the wider field but the 16X is my favorite from the SS line. IMO, the 16X is better than the 10X but both of those are better than the 20X.
Hope that helps.

Never too late to switch. Matching reticle and turrets are the way to go. It'd only take a couple trips to get comfortable with the swap. There's enough info on here that it'd be all too easy to learn. I find it's easier to divide a mil into tenths than break it down from 3.5. 3/4 of 3.5 is what? Now what's 3/4 of 10? You'd be just as well served by matching MOA/MOA but there's fewer options out there. Just something to think about

Re: Super Sniper 20x Go or No Go?

I have a 20X sitting atop my Barrett M99. I only shoot 1000 yard matches and some informal range stuff with mine. So far the mirage hasn't been a problem but I'm thinking that the 16X might have been a better choice just for the mirage issue. Most guys on the line are running 5-20X scopes (Leupold/Nightforce). I think more for the ability to turn the X down if the mirage is bad than for any other reason.

I also have a 10X on my M1A EBR. Having no issues at all shooting out to 500 yards with it. Seems like the fixed 10X is pretty standard and if I were outfitting something for 700 yards and in I'd feel pretty comfortable with it.

As far as reticle is concerned, I'm shooting a set distance with the 50 BMG so I could care less to be honest. I wouldn't have minded a fine crosshair instead of the mildot. However, on my EBR I think I'd prefer the Mil/Mil set-up. I might look at selling off the fixed 10X once SWFA does a group buy on the new line-up.
