My suppressor was pristine when it went into jail. Picked it up today and the finish is all messed up with some tarnish or something. This is my first dip into the NFA pool, 9 mo. wait, and I am not happy about this.

I see some black in the middle but lots of clean metal. How would I even know if someone at the FFL was taking liberties with a suppressor? Does that even happen? The threads were all still packed full of anti-seize as it left a bunch of it all over the brake threads and I see lots of clean metal inside but DAMN! that finish looks like someone was using it.
The finish isn’t the only thing wrong with that can. Who makes that hideous thing?

My dealer test fires customer’s cans all the time for demo purposes for potential buyers to hear them. But, they have always to my knowledge called the owner first and asked permission.

Did your dealer have this in stock at the time of purchase, or was it a Form 3? Might have been a demo at one point but they should have stated such.

Go to range, attach can, send rds down range, enjoy quiet.

Agree with most above; it looks like it got banged around quite a bit. Likely no harm and it will probably look a lot worse in a year or so once you've actually used it. That said, I'd honestly be pretty pissed as well. If I bang something up then that's character, but if it gets banged up for me before I even touch it, no bueno. Were they using it for a fucking hammer or something?
The can was not in stock or demo unit. Ordered in new. I looked at it the day it came in. Everything was good to go. The brake has always been installed on the rifle since day one when I built it. Was just waiting for the can.
Unit comes in a heavy duty canvas/nylon type molly pouch. that clips closed. In a cardboard box. Box was pristine so no incidental damage like other things in the box. Only the papers.
So AFAIK its been sitting in a safe in an airconditioned gun shop. Thinking there may can been some contamination on the unit or on the inside of the pouch but I don't know about finishes. *shrug* Mostly it just that I wouldn't expect the finish to be anything other than new looking. And its obviously far from that.
Again it doesn't look fired. I would expect the entire inside to be blackened. Also, its not like the people at the FFL would ever admit to that felony if they had been taking liberties.

17-4 PH tube, unlikely it is corrosion. Highest probability is some oil or other contaminant that prevented adhesion of finish to metal.
OP, have you contacted LaRue to see what options are available to you? If this is a coating issue I'd give LaRue the opportunity to correct the issue.

Agree with above again; I would contact LaRue and see what they'll do for you. They can't replace it since it's already left their shop but they can repair it as long as the repair doesn't obliterate the serial number. If it just needs to be refinished then should be no problem. I do think, however, you could just forget about it and shoot it. But i completely understand where you're coming from. Looks like a finish issue not a structural one.
Ahh you must be looking at the last ridge before the first baffle. Yea that's just anti-seize making an uneven ridge.
I can see why you would be annoyed. But as posted above, LaRue won't be a whole lot of help. It definitely doesn't look like it was fired.
Additionally, who wants to send a can they just waited 9 months for back to have re-sprayed.
Best course of action is to take it out and get it hot. It will develop a nice patina that people would pay for if it was a cerakote color.

I'd agree that it definitely doesn't look like it's been shot, the baffles are clean and you can see the straw color from heat treat. I'd agree that there might have been some residue that didn't get removed prior to coating.
While a bit of a bummer, I personally wouldn't bother returning it for recoating, it's probabably going to get hot and banged up and ugly soon anyway.
If it makes you feel better, I put a nice shiny gouge in my Nomad trying to get the DT adapter off when I went to fill out my F4. It's still sitting there, ugly in my dealer's safe, but I reckon it will still work alright when my permission slip is finally handed down from on high.

I would contact Larue. I use my Silencerco and Liberty cans plenty and none of them look like that. Make them refinish it, turnaround should be short as there is no paperwork involved. You could also have someone refinish the can locally at your own expense if it bothers you that much, but I thing Larue should be on the hook for it.

For the OP, I definitely would contact LaRue to inspect for manufacturing defects.
Mine looked hideous from about shot 5 onward because I had done my usual thing for all new products, added reasonable seeming lube to all the impossibly dry bits from the factory. Here, anti-seize (it's a modular so many threaded bits) and it melted under heat, ran out and down the outside, leaving an apparently permanent grayish-silver drip mark in the finish.
Fortunately, I generally do not care what my stuff looks like, and now it has a cover.
Your frustrations are not unreasonable. You invested a lot of time and money in a can and it should be pristine when you take possession. But in reality this is a minor cosmetic defect that will be irrelevant after some mileage on the suppressor. It will get scratches and discoloration. If it bugs you that much have a local shop blast it with high heat Cerakote while you wait.
Did the pouch have bbq seasoning in it that corroded the can?
Use a mirage cover so you'll be protected from flying shrapnel should it be a structural defect in the tube wall.
