I bought a SPS Tactical (308) while I was home on leave and would like to put a suppressor on it. This will be my first suppressor, and I have read, read, and read some more about options, but I would like some advice for this particular rifle. I did search and came up empty with a thread dedicated to the SPS tactical suppressed.

To answer a few questions that I know will come up:
B&C Tactical Medalist A3
Zeiss Conquest 3-9x50 Rapid Z600
Harris BP
And yes I have been reloading for several years.

I plan on using it mostly at the range, but Im sure I will carry it to the woods if I'm gonna be looking for a long shot. Mostly looking to shoot super-sonic, but would like to be able to go sub for the fun of it!!
Yes I am new here to posting, been reading advice from here for a while, so take it easy on me!!

Yes get a TI can.

I have an AAC Cyclone as well, and would prefer the SRT Shadow XL TI, in terms of weight and sound reduction.

Thanks for the input, I will not be home from this hell hole until this fall, so I figured I could research as much as possible during that time!

Re: Suppressor for 700 SPS Tactical (308)

Im really leaning heavy on the Shark. Any suggestions for dealer who will do the transfer and smith work in or near upstate SC?

Re: Suppressor for 700 SPS Tactical (308)

I would send the rifle to the suppressor manufacturer so they can mate the rifle and suppressor together at the same time. That will preclude having thread issues.

Contacted David at Shark Suppressors, seems like a great guy! He will be getting my business! Now if I can get the ball rolling from over here I will be in business! I need to start looking for threads to know exactly where to start and what steps to take to buy the stamp, get the transfer, etc.

Thanks again for all the input, by the way,LowLight has a great review on the Shark and Sandstorm here: http://www.snipershide.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=1894468&page=1

that is easy too but since you are in Afghanistan the stamp part is going to be difficult. First, order the suppressor from Shark, secondly, find a dealer in your home state that will do the transfer to you - the dealer will get the suppressor from Shark on a Form 3 - manufacturer to dealer and then you have to do paperwork on a Form 4 to do the transfer - here is when it gets hard - you will have to be present to get the Local Law Enforcement Officers signature and do the Form 4 paperwork which requires a set of two fingerprints cards and your photo along with $200.00 to the ATF.
There are othe ways to do it by building a Trust but it will also be hard from where you are because it requires paperwork.

Hope this helps or gets you thinking.

Re: Suppressor for 700 SPS Tactical (308)

Gonna try to make contact with a dealer this week. The prints I can have done here by the Provost Marshall's Office, but I'm afraid the Law Enforcement signature might be a little tricky from here ;( At least My rifle will be threaded and the can built by the time I get home, that will give me time to get acquainted with it since it's brand new!!
Thanks!

Just form a revocable trust and you wont have to worry about the law enforcement signature!

How difficult is that? Can it be done from Afghanistan? Do you know if that will work in South Carolina? I have read the form 4 instructions as well as several sites that state a trust is one way to do it, but this is the first time I heard the term "revocable" trust. Thanks for the info!!

Re: Suppressor for 700 SPS Tactical (308)

Bugg, try Guns and Gear, Lavonia, Ga. . Bill or Chris are more than willing to get you set up. Plus they are LEO and Military discounts. Also SRT Arms are located in Pickens ,S.C. now. Keep your head down till DD time ,we don't need to lose any more southern men. N.C. born S.C. raised!!!Drop me a line I am near upstate S.C. ,will hook you up on info.

Re: Suppressor for 700 SPS Tactical (308)

You can go to JAG if there is a representative there to help with the trust. If they will not help then try to see if you can have a state side trust lawyer or NFA lawyer help set up a trust.
Being in the military and constantly moving a trust sounds like a much better way to go from what I have been reading.

A Revocable Living Trust is the most popular Trust used for NFA items. "Revocable" means it can be changed to add/remove assets, trustees, beneficiaries, etc.

A lot of people use Quicken Willmaker to form the Trust or contact a lawyer knowledgeable in Trusts.

Re: Suppressor for 700 SPS Tactical (308)

I talked to JAG today, they are gonna see what info they can give me. The one I talked to normally does not do trusts, but will look into it for me!!
Thanks
