A buddy of mine has a new Yankee Hill 5.56, 18" barrell and is wanting to get a suppressor. I also think it is amid-length if that makes a difference. Just looking for some suggestions.

Re: suppressor for YH

Just as well get the YHM suppressor to go with the gun. I recomend going ahead and getting the 7.62 suppressor so you can use it on the .308AR you know damn well you're (uhh-your friend) going to get in the future. Get the QD and buy extra flash hider/adapters for all your threaded guns and you can swap it from gun to gun. I use mine on 6 different AR's-both 308 and 556. This saves me having to buy 2 suppressors for dedicated calibers. The titanium is well worth its money as well in weight savings. 15 ounces versus 31 ounces for the stainless.

Re: suppressor for YH

I just realized I should have posted this on the "suppressor" forum. My apologies. At any rate, I was reading some posts there and saw several comments about the YH cans not being disassembable for cleaning. Is that correct? Also would a 7.62 can be noticibly louder when used on a 5.56?

Re: suppressor for YH

You won't need to clean a centerfire suppressor as there is no lead buildup.

Is there a difference in sound when shooting a .223 in a .223 can vs. 7.62 can; yes, but you won't be able to hear it. You would need specialized equipment to realized the few decibel difference. Just get a 7.62 can and shoot everything smaller than 30 caliber through it.

I shoot a Ti Arbiter made by Suppressed Armament Systems and I could not be happier.

Re: suppressor for YH

I don't have a 5.56 can to compare, but I do know full power loads 5.56 are NOT AS LOUD in total noise as the 308 full power ammo. Larger bullet louder when it breaks the sound barrier? I don't know.

Don't expect hollywood quiet from any real can. The supersonic crack is as loud as a 22LR un-suppressed. And it sounds the same when a bullet passes by your position at 100yds. The sound seems to come from the closest point of the bullet's path. Once you realize how loud just the supersonic crack is, you'll have a new respect for how efficient your can really is at stifling muzzle blast.

Re: suppressor for YH

I agree, get the 7.62 can and because it is a heavier duty (and bigger) can to begin with, it makes up for the hole being oversized. One can fits all! I do the same with my 308, 300 blackout, 270, 270 wsm, 6.5 grendel and 223. Saved me a lot of money, so I spent it on the Ti version.
