Suppressors Suppressor Question?

If anyone has already asked this I apologize, but hear goes. Has anyone ever used a suppressor on a 17HMR? I just ordered a Savage MK2 TRR in 17HMR and was thinking of threading it to try my 22 suppressor on it. If anyone has any experience with this I would love to hear your experiences.

I know that the sonic crack will be present, but wondered if the small bullet would have an affect on heard perception of the sonic crack. Through my experience with a 260 REM compared to a 308 WIN, shot through the same suppressor. The 260 REM being much quieter in my opinion. Was wondering if this would be the same as compared to a 22MAG to the 17HMR. JAA

By most accounts it sounds like unsuppressed .22HV. No personal experience, though.

I have a 17HM2 bolt action that I have used a lot for pigeon control with my SWR suppressor. The 17HM2 makes a little more noise than a 22lr but the bullet crack sounds less than the 22lr to me. I have only shot the 17HMR one time with a suppressor the bullet crack seemed to be more but I did not try them side by side. Both rounds were comfortable without ear protection. Many pigeons around my barn have fallen victim to the 17HM2 with the SWR Spectre.

SWR spectre is the quietest 22LR can I have ever heard... hands down...

Make sure your can is mag rated before shooting on the 17HMR.

The SWR spectre is rated for 22LR, 22Mag, 17HMR, and the 5.7 rounds some people use it on a 22 hornet also.

Per personal communication with SWR, the Spectre isn't rated for Hornet since barrel length and handload can be considerations.
With light loads and long barrels, damage seems unlikely, though.

Yeah you can, but you will void your warranty if it's used on .22 Hornet. Thats why I bought a Liberty Kodiak, more versatile.



I havn't shot them side by side. But the crack from my 17 Mach 2 thru a Spectre on 16" barreled 10/17. Sounds about the same as HV.22 L.R. thru my 22" barreled suppressed bolt gun. Takes the "Bang" away but not the crack.
