I am starting to notice surface rust on my equipment. Not such a big deal since I know how to get it off but I was wondering what's the best oil/line to use to prevent it in the future? Is just regular rem oil fine or is there better stuff?

Re: Surface Rust

If you don't want to mess with it, I'd clean the rust off and degrease. Then use paste wax to coat the problem areas. Brownell's sells a spray can of BoeShield that has worked well too.

If it is a moving part that will not contact powder or primers, use a thick grease. If you want to stick with an oil Break Free makes (or at least used to) a product called Collector. IIRC, it was tested against other oils and did very well at preventing rust.

Re: Surface Rust

Rem Oil not so good. You can Google the tests. For a relatively dry finish Eezox is probably best. Breakfree CLP is way up there also on rust prevention. Boeshield works well but is a little sticky. Heavy greases work better than thin oils. I tried paste wax but was disappointed.

Re: Surface Rust

I find paste wax to work great on hard wood floors, as long as you don't mind seeing your dogs do the tango.

I live in good ole SC, and it is typically wet, though not this year, and I use Eezox and will as long as it is made. Boeshield works too, but I don't think it is as good as Eezox. IMHO....

Re: Surface Rust

Don't know where to find eezox, but I DO recommend Fluid Film to prevent rust. I bought a case on ebay and found so many uses in my automotive shop I'll soon have to buy more....

Re: Surface Rust

I just ordered a 4oz container and a 3oz spray since it wasnt any more for shipping so i should be good for a loooooooong time

Re: Surface Rust

I can't see where putting grease or oil on a die, or equipment being conducive to clean reloading.
Not sure of the Enco product, but Boeshield T-9 is pretty good stuff. I would think looking at www.woodworkers.com for it would be cheaper than getting popped in the kiester by brownells or sinclair.
If rust is that big of a problem, I would look into a dehumifier also.
