Gunsmithing Surgeon Action Consistency?

So I know bighorns/impacts/lone peaks etc. are good to go for between action barrel changes. What about surgeons? Is headspace consistent enough between different serial number actions to be able to screw on a barrel from another action? Also, what are the differences between “c” and “s” prefix actions?

Looking for a new barrel for one I have sitting in the safe and considering picking a used on up to just run.

I’ve talked to surgeon, but I’d like to hear from some of the gunsmiths I know are prevalent here

I don't know the differences between the c and s prefix actions but I've found the HS to fall in a .002" range. Not significant.

The A and B series actions have a little be more variance than the C prefix actions. That said, there are the occasional odd balls.
