I did some searching with google but couldn't find a specific answer and was hoping I could find help here.

I have a switch barrel being built by Mr. Gradous on a surgeon 1086 and was wondering if the surgeon action wrench allowed for the removal of the barrel without having to remove the optic?

If the optic has to be removed, is there an alternative wrench, such as a rear entry (giggity) model, where the optic could stay on?

Thanks.

Yep, you can leave the optic mounted.

Edit, well I should mention that with a barrel vice that clamps the barrel close to the receiver a problem occurs. The scope bumps into the table or vice when the action is rotated a little bit. If you clamped onto the barrel out past the forend of the stock you can get away with leaving the scope on.

Not removing scope during barrel removal, is a good way to break a scope. Action does twist, and the pop that a tight barrel makes has given a thump to the scope in a direction it isn't designed for. Take it off, and worry not.

Edit - the 1086 wrench I have is a rear entry type. It would be possible to remove barrel w/o taking scope off if you clamp the barrel past the scope.
