What is the differnce between a surgeon RSR or 591 action other than the integrated rail? I am going to start piecing together a .243 for predators and am not sure if the extra price is worth it for me? They are both machined to the same tolerance and are R700 dimensions?

Re: surgeon action

integrated rail and recoil lug on the 591. Seperate pieces on the RSR. Not sure if the metal is different or not, but either one is an excellent choice for a precision build. They will both fit into a Remington inlet stock, with the exception of the recoil lug slot which is slightly larger on the surgeon and the bolt is straight on both actions instead of swept back like the remington (both are very easy fixes on the stock). The stock will also need to be inlet for the side bolt release, again very easy fix.

Well, other than integral 20 MOA rail, the 591 has an integral recoil lug as well. The RSR uses a double pinned recoil lug. The RSR action is a value when you compare having a standard Rem action trued, and your still ahead on the Surgeon with features such as the one piece bolt/handle and side bolt release. Cant go wrong with either action IMO.

Re: surgeon action

The 591 has integral rail AND lug. It's all one piece. I have a 591, and love it. Recently seen a couple builds with the RSR, and they shot the lights out. I'm no gunsmith so I don't know the diff in footprint of the two, but I do know Surgeon puts out GOOD $HIT.

I personally chose the one piece 591 simply for the fact of no screwed on parts to work loose & consistancy of zero retention.

I would not kick an RSR outta bed though either.
