I have a GAP buit rifle with a Surgeon 591 action. I am wanting to change the triger out from a x-mark to an old style remington trigger. The pins in the x-mark look smaller than a standard 700. Is a tapered pin used in the surgeon acton? Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks JAA.

Re: Surgeon Action ?

Should be the identical pin size, unless someone enlarged the pin holes in the action, but they don't come from Surgeon that way. Should be a straight swap pin wise. FWIW, I would go to an after market trigger like a Timney or Shilen before the old style, if you are set on old style, I would upgrade with a JARD kit first.

Re: Surgeon Action ?

Thanks for the help guys. I have several triggers to choose from at this point. Old style remington, shelin and a rifle basics. As for the jewell trigger, I have not had good luck with them. This is a field rifle and I prefer a 2.5# to 3# trigger. Thanks Again. JAA

Re: Surgeon Action ?

It may just be my action but there were oversized pins in the trigger, and I had two old Remington triggers and neither would cock the bolt. The sear engagement was way off. I ended up with a Rifle Basic's in it for now, but it is coming out soon. Has too much over-travel, and not consistent at all. Ordered a Timney yesterday. JAA

Re: Surgeon Action ?

Don't know if anyone is interested, but though I would share. I put the Timney trigger in today. Took the rifle to the range and love it. Best trigger I have used so far. Was the by far the easiest to put in and very easy to adjust. I would strongly recommend this trigger to anyone. JAA
