Hey, first post on the forums here.
I have a project rifle I've been putting together and the time came to add a detachable box magazine. I have a Remington 700 SA sitting on a Bell and Carlson Medalist/Tactial stock (model 2094). I looked at a few magazine assemblies and decided to try out the Surgeon Rifles DBM as I liked the low profile, ambidextrous magazine release (that's the only thing I dislike on the Badger DBM, the long release lever hanging off the bottom of the gun).
It's come time to install the part, but I'm having trouble locating any information on how people have done this. The main issue is fitting the magazine assembly past the aluminum bedding block in the B&C stock. The decision to be made is whether to fit the bedding block to the magazine assembly, or trim the magazine assembly to the bedding block. My instinct is to trim the bedding block since modifications to the fiberglass will have to be made anyway, this way only the stock has been modified from factory, leaving the magazine assembly intact. However, I'm also concerned about having to trim too much and losing any structural integrity from the bedding system.
Anyone have any thoughts or experience with this install? I know that at Shot Show this year B&C said they'd be coming out with versions of their stocks pre-fitted for various DBM assemblies, includind the Surgeon one, but no word if they had to make any drastic redesign of the aluminum. Any insight is appreciated.
