Gunsmithing Surgeon xl switch barrel set up breech diameter question

Hey guys,

i know surgeon recommends 1.350" breech diameter with the xl action. Is it possible to fit a barrel with a 1.250" breech that isn't going to be a .338 variant or higher? Was thinking of making a switch barrel setup using the xl and some barrels that I already have but didn't know if I had to have a 1.350" breech on all the barrels being used on the xl.

Makes for a really thin shoulder, about .0625 if you hit it spot on, less if not. Problem with that is as you snug up the barrel, you squash the face of the shoulder, and move it, effectively shortening headspace.

I got a 338 barrel for my XL, that was not big enough diameter, it was a 1.250, and did just this. Swapped it to a buddy, got a 1.450 the second time. Much better this time.
