Anyone running a Surgeon XL w the .550 bolt face for a 28 Nosler or 300 WM? I know its over kill but when the time comes purchase a .590 bolt and run a Norma or Lapua cartridge.

Complete bolts are $450 on a Short Action not sure on the larger bolts. The other option is to just have the bolt face open. I prefer the Surgeon actions just trying to justify a XL action.
I think yours is the better idea with the WSM action. I have to run the bolt the right speed for the ejection to work with the short Saum case. I've got mine throated so those 140 hybrid's bearing surface is above the neck/shoulder junction, thus putting a bunch of powder in it if I want is no problem.
With the 30-375 ejection is perfect.
I like the machined 30moa pic rail, flat bottom, and integral recoil lug. Bolt lift is softer than most actions. Big and beefy action is great for heavy builds.

Very similar, I did my version with a 35 degree shoulder 10 years ago. Necking down 375R brass to 30 cal is a PITA, thankfully I only had to do it once because my brass lasted all those years, about 1600 rounds worth.

I have a 1581 XL 338 LM bolt face you can use the same bolt on 300 NM don't have to change anything.
I gave in today. I purchased a Defiance Deviant 30 moa, CIP mag cut , Ion Bonded w .590 bolt face. Guess it will make a good home for a 300 NM or 7-300 NM
I wanted a Surgeon XL but everyone was out of stock and surgeon quoted me 6-8 months. Im not a Defiance fan as i have had issues with bolt binding. Figured i would give a Ion bonded Defiance a 2ND try.
