I'm wondering if anybody swaps their scope with rings attached back and forth from rifle to rifle and if so or not is there something that I'm missing that would make this bad idea? obviously the bases not being perfect would have an effect and I would have to have two zeros but neither of those are an issue.

Thanks in advance!

Re: Swapping scope+rings from rifle to rifle

I do it with my premier. As long as you torque the rings the same amount in te same location on the rails the zero holds. The resettable zero is really nice for this type of set up. My bolt that the scope primarily is a 338 Norma and a switch it to my ar with badger 22 moa rail.

Re: Swapping scope+rings from rifle to rifle

Thanks guys, I wasn't sure if this was totally crazy or not but the idea of buying another NightForce hurt. I current run a NSX 5.5-22x50 with Badger rings. I do have an inch/lb torque wrench so consistent outing torque wouldn't be an issue but is a good point because I'll just add that wrench to my gear bag.

Thanks guys!

Stop looking for a reason to not buy a new NF!

Stimulate the economy! LOL

I do it also and have no problem. Always torque them down...

Re: Swapping scope+rings from rifle to rifle

I swap 4 good scopes permanently mounted on Quick Detach rings over 9-10 rifles, all with a picatinny rail mount. I zeroed each scope on each rifle, and I have made up a table showing all the combinations, so that I can dial in the scope on each rifle. It took me a good bit of time and money to get all the mounts, as it is sometimes difficult . In order to endorse it fully, I should probably do a long term stability test - but I have been too busy for that so far.

I should mention, however, that none of my rifles exceeds .308. So recoil stress is not excessive.

Might look into the bushnell boresighting collimator 74-3333.

If you keep a log, and note your zero settings for each rifle on the 74-3333, you can swap and reset your zero without having to sight-in every time...

The problem is that my economy isn't being stimulated.

Re: Swapping scope+rings from rifle to rifle

I tried switching scope a few years back. Even with the data for each rifle it got old very quickly and ended up buying an additional scope.

Re: Swapping scope+rings from rifle to rifle

Were you using regular or QD rings? With regular rings I could never do it - having to torque again exactly right, screw to the mark etc... I use Warne QD rings, and it takes about 20-30 seconds to get them both in place - removing is faster. The zero is untouched for hunting purposes.

Actually, it is a routine now - when I get home I take out the scope and clean it, put it away in its pouch, check dessicant, put in safe, then clean rifle:)
