Rifle is a Savage 10 FLCP-K .308 with 680 rounds down the barrel.

Current optic is a Bushnell Elite Tactical MIL/MIL. Moving to a SS 5-20 MIL/MIL

Load is 175 SMK running 2720fps.

I don't remember all of my chart but at 500 it is 3.0 MIL give or take .1 MIL, depending on environmentals. At 1000 it is usually between 9.4 to 9.6 MIL. Every ballistic calculator spits out 9.9 to 10.2 MIL and I've always thought it was a turret tracking issue on the second round of the turret. Of course I knew actual correction from shooting but when "Shooter" allows for DA I don't trust the elevation correction because of what I know to be the actual elevation correction.

Maybe with the Super Sniper I can now trust "Shooter" allowing for DA.

With the same ring height you should have the same dope.

The variations from calculated are probably due to DA. Shooting at 1000 yds I've seen almost a full MOA difference in the first relay in the morning in the low 70s and the afternoon relay when it's in the upper 90s.

Re: Swapping scopes. Wonder if my dope will change?

I understand how DA can drastically affect elevation correction due to sustained velocity. I also understand that maintaining the same sight height, rings and reticle type should not have much affect on elevation correction. My point is that there are mechanics involved that will not be identical from one brand and model scope to another.

Exactly. Also assuming the scopes track properly. If one does and the other doesn't you will get different data.

That's my concern. That they will track differently.

Yes, this is one of the reasons I advocate measuring the click value of every scope--even with quality scopes you'll often find them 1% or 2% off this way or that which is certainly enough to require different dope at longer ranges.

When you meticulously measure and correct for the actual value in your dope, you stand a good chance of being dead nuts on with your very first shot.

And that's what most riflemen are looking for!

When I've done what you propose, the zero has changed. Once re-zeroed, the come-ups were the same as before.

Don't be damning me damnit!

I didn't do what I said I would. I mounted and bore sighted then took it to the range (pressed for time). I zeroed at 100 in 3 shots, set up steel and started checking elevation correction.

I referenced notes from the previous Mil/ Mil scope and "Shooter" ballistics. When all was said and done, elevation correction was the same as the previous scope at 200, 300, 400, and 500 yards. Again pressed for time that's as far as I shot it just to get ready to hunt with the rifle this week. I'm gonna bet that I can lean on "Shooter" ballistics a little more now beyond 500 yards.
