Looking to buy a set off eBay would like to know what the numbers on the front of the focus knob means these say 6 4deg. Also I asked the seller if they were hd he said yes as they are swaro vision. They are 10 by 42

If you're looking at EL 10x42's there are many different versions. Newest version has green body color and rounded bumps where the neck strap attaches. next oldest version has the green inside the hinges but conventional metal neck strap attachment points. The next oldest one before that has black on the body inside the hinges. I think the biggest difference optically is between the green vs black inside the hinges since that had some improvements like Swarovision and field flattening lenses. The newest model I believe just has some cosmetic and feature upgrades.

Yes, that is the field of view in degrees. The 10x 42's do have a 6.4 degree field of view, or 112meters at 1000 meters/ 336 feet at 1000 yards.

I had a pair of the 10x42 EL's and loved them. Fantastic binos. I heard that the swarovision version can give you a headache after a while. I've never used them, that is just second hand info, but maybe worth looking into before you pull the trigger on something that pricey.

Poached this from the swarovski website.

Field of View

The field of view is the size of the circular section of the area which can be observed when you look through a long-range optical device. With binoculars and spotting scopes the field of view is given in metres at a distance of 1,000 metres (ft/1,000 yds), e.g. 141 m/1,000 m (423 ft/1,000 yds). In the case of rifle scopes, it is specified at a distance of 100 metres (100 yds), e.g. 42.5 m/100 m (127.5 in/100 yds). As an alternative to metres, the field of view can also be given in degrees (e.g. 6.6°).

It is always desirable to have the largest possible field of view for long-range optical instruments. But the technically feasible size for the field of view is essentially determined by the magnification. The higher the magnification the smaller the field of view.

Manufacturers face a major challenge to achieve a combination of the widest possible field of view and an edge-to-edge sharp image. A distinction needs to be made between the objective (relating to the object) and the subjective (relating to the user) field of view.

I have the 10x42 el range and every time I look through them I am amazed at the clarity. The sharpness, the colors and the ability to use them with very little light is unsurpassed IMHO.

I have 8x32's with the field flattener and you can see the rolling ball effect when you pan quickly. Some people notice it and some do not. I had a pair of the 10x50's with the field flattener as well and noticed it less. It only happens when you pan. It affects few people.

I recently had the chance to look through a friends 10x42 el range binos and WOW! The clarity is amazing for sure. In some ways I wish I had not looked through them.

gentlemen thank you for your reply's i did pull the trigger on these received them and i am very happy, my first purchase with swaro's was a spotting scope a str with a recital i bought it without having seen one in person i didn't realize the size of it as never seen one first hand and was disappointed as it is really big and the only time i use it is on the range but i did have a leo hd 10x40 hd that i thought i would sell it but i never will as its the cats ass to take in the field to carry and use hunting. the swaros are as good as they come their might be others that are as good but i truly don't think their is nothing better. i have been looking for a chest pack for them and was looking at the kuiu for them along with the Alaska guide packs do you have any other as i am looking for inputs on these as well again thanks for your reply's.
