Re: Swaro Rangefinding Bino

These would have to be the dogs guts! (bees knees)

Out to 1.3 Klicks, which is pretty good, considering most of us don't shoot past 1.3 k's on a regular basis, and built in
gradiant meter.

Re: Swaro Rangefinding Bino

Nice to have both binos and LRF in one unit for most shooting and definitely hunting.

I'm just going to have to save up my pennies and buy a Vectronix unit if I want to consistently get beyond the 1700ish yards I get with my Swaro Laser Guide.

Re: Swaro Rangefinding Bino

I have the steiner Laser range finder that came out last year
steinerlrf01.jpg
and so far I have been very happy with them and I have been able to reliably range out to 2100 yards with it so far. I have only had them for a few weeks now and I will really get to play with them after this hunting season. But so far the optical quality is very good and the rangefinder is really nice. The one thing I really like about the swaro binocs is the angle compensator.

My friend has the leica geovids and the rangefinder is ok under 1k yards but the optical quality is very good. So far my Steiner range finder blows the leica out of the water so far.

If anyone is interested in a full review of the steiners after I really get to play with them just let me know and I will come back with my full review in a few months.

I don't know what the beam divergence is. I don't have any idea where to find out either.

Re: Swaro Rangefinding Bino

Yeah, they are rediculisly expensive. I managed to get them $600 less than what they are sellin for now so that put them at the same price as the Leica Geovids. But it is still expensive. Just like the saying "Buy once, Cry once"

Re: Swaro Rangefinding Bino

Guys, performance aside, there is one HUGE difference between the Swaro and the Steiner - size. The Swaro are small but the Steiner is HUGE and I mean HUGE. If you used them on a ship then that is OK but weight wise its like lugging another complete rifle along. I liked them until I saw them in person at the recent NRA show. Check their weight specs before making any decision.

Just got the weight numbers - Swaro 13.65oz Steiner 45.9oz!

Yes you are correct they are bulky and heavier than the swaros. That doesn't bother me because where I go hunting I stay in one spot all day and I am not humping that thing all day long. I do have to hump it in to my spot but luckily it only takes me about 20 minutes from the truck. If I was moving around all day long then I would consider getting something else.

The one thing that I do like about the Steiners is they are very tough.

Re: Swaro Rangefinding Bino

Yes, agreed. In your situation, their quality and ruggedness makes them a good choice. That is why I think they would also be excellent on a ship for the same reason.

I use a Leica CRF1600 because of their light weight but I do miss not having the binocular aspect of the Swaro/Steiner.

The Leica CRF1600 has a quoted range of “approx 10m/yds to 1460m/1600 yds” according to the manual, probably conservative number. I have not ranged past 1200 in Michigan as the place is so flat that nothing is visible farther than that – LOL!

If you are interested, go to the Leica website and you can download their manual for a detailed description. I tried the Swaro and it’s a mix bag. I would give the Swaro 70002 the nod as to how easy it is to hold the RF steadily. On the other hand, it is heavier (13.65 oz vs. 7.76 oz) and I did not like the ranging reticle as much. The Leica does come with the ability to give you angle of inclination, temperature, atmospheric pressure and a holdover using a set of simplified ballistic curve.

Re: Swaro Rangefinding Bino

I also have the Leica 1600 and my experience with it is that it will normally give you a fast reading on anything below 800 yards. Anything past that I would have to continuously hit a target a few times in order to get a reading. I have been able to range a target all the way out to 1720 yards but I had to range it for over a minute in order to get a reading.

I do like that it is lightweight.

The Leica Geovids will take readings faster than the Leica LRF hands down in my experience. But they won't go as far.

Re: Swaro Rangefinding Bino

My Zeiss 8x45 LRF Binos work great. I have ranged stuff at 1700 yrds. The range finder is much faster and have more range than Leicas. Zeiss has outstanding CS they will fix or exchange in a heartbeat.
