Found in the paper a pair of Swarovski Habicht SCL Binos for $500 bucks. I am going to look at them this evening. I can't find hardly anything on the net about these binos. Most everything I find is either about the Habicht or the SCL, not the habicht scl model. I did find one post that mentioned something about the objective lense moving or being behind a protective lense. Which made it a waterproof or not model which affected the price also. Any info you guys can give me on these binos as far as what to look for when I look at them would greatly help. Also is that price seem about right?

Re: Swarovski Habicht SCL questions

Habicht SLC is the Swarovski top of the line roof prism model they made in the 1980s and early 90s. I have a pair bought in 1985 and they are great binoculars, in my opinion the equal of the zeiss models of that time period. I believe they are waterproof, I have hunted with them in the rain without any issues. I bought mine from a friend who was a swarovski dealer and $500 was my dealer wholesale price in 1985.

Re: Swarovski Habicht SCL questions

I have owned 2 pair of them over the last 15 years and yes the Habicht model is the waterproof version. One of my favorite bow hunting glasses I have ever used.

Pros - They have great field of view and are on par with most top quality mfg in weight and size. In my opinion $500.00 is a good deal if they are in very good to like new condition and have all the accs.

Cons - The build quality is top top shelf but the optics are a little dated. The coatings they used back then gave off a slight yellow cast that is not present in the newer gen models. The focus adjustment is in kind of a strange location meaning you use your middle or ring finger to adjust focus vs index. Not sure why the laid it out that way but you would get used to it.

All in all your still getting more bang for the buck than most other glass you would buy new for that same $500.00 IMO!

Cheers!
