Asking for a friend and I know you guys know more about it than I do. It's going on a Savage 6.5 and all he's going to do is shoot a little on the weekend, nothing serious, maybe a little wild hog action. The Athlon I'd $70 more.
I own the SWFA 12x42 and I’ve done a bit of of hog hunting in southern Texas. I love the swfa for target shooting and prairie dogs, but I think you’ll be lacking in field of view on hogs unless your shots are 150 yards at a minimum. If you have to shoot hogs up close and shoot steel and paper to extended ranges, a 3-12 or 4-16 would pull excellent double duty.
Take a look at this Argos BTR review posted the other day. I think you'll agree that for low price it's the way to go (plus you get a special SH member price, just call and speak with us).
The Argos BTR is available 6-24 as well as 8-36
