Had the SWFA 3-9x42 on my 16 inch barrell ar-10. Selling this rifle to buy a bolt gun and get into long range shooting. I'll be shooting 500 yards max for now. What's a good variable, higher power ffp mil/mil scope for around 800? I'm new to long range shooting and worried that I won't have a chance at accuracy with only 9 power at 500 yards. Thanks guys.

Vortex PST FFP MIL/MIL 4-16

Call Scott @ Libertoptics.com

You could use a the SS 3-9 as I have out to 1200 yards. However if your trying to hit the key hole step up to a higher magnification scope.

Shot one on my POF 308 for a while before I picked up another used USO to put on it. It worked fine to as far as I shot it....about 700 yds. Nothing wrong with it for that applocation unless you want more mag. Shooting man sized steel to 2moa steel you will be just fine with it. Nothing wrong with an upgrade though!

I hit steel plates a 500 yards with the SWFA 3-9 all day long without any problems. Tracking is perfect.

I don't see why it couldn't do 800? Kind of depends on the size of the target but I think you'd be ok with a human sized target.

Personally I'd want more magnification at 800, but that's my own preference.
