Re: SWFA SS 10x42 Tactical Riflescope

Just joking with ya xhodzax. Welcome to SnipersHide and as you hang out and become more of a regular you will catch on to the many inside jokes here.

There are a handful of posts (mostly by new guys) that are reoccuring and asking for opinions on our SS is one of them. People would usually ask you to use the search function or dig around a little as the SS is one of the most widely reviewed scopes out there and the overwhelming common concensus is that they are good to go.

Give us a holler if you would like to order one, I'll even throw in a set of our SS rings to make up for the hard time we gave ya.

Re: SWFA SS 10x42 Tactical Riflescope

The shorthand version is that it is a Mil/Mil scope with better internals and much better glass than the original .

The originals are a Mil/MOA scope and the 5-6 I have looked through have OK glass while being extremely robust . My Dad has one on his M1A which ate several high end scopes before we decided to try the Super Sniper and it has held up admirably .

Re: SWFA SS 10x42 Tactical Riflescope

So are the original SS's (10, 16, 20) be discontinued sine the 10X42 HD is now out? That'd be a bummer, as they are arguably the most proven entry level scopes for those that can live with mildots with 1/4 moa clicks.

I figured the OP was asking about the original (non-HD) 10X42's since he mentioned "under $600".....

Re: SWFA SS 10x42 Tactical Riflescope

Dont know if they are discontinued. I picked one up off ebay (2005 Model) and its solid as a rock.....serves its purpose for me.

The damn turrets sure are stiff....I believe someone posted a fix for that a awhile back just dont remember who. i ran the turrets up and down but they are still tight. I look at it as a good thing. At least I KNOW they wont move by bumping them or gettin knocked around in the bush

The original line up is not discontinued, in fact we're expanding them by adding a 6x42 next year.

Really... sweet, I've been wanting something like that. Will it be MRad with the new turrets or MOA with the old?

Damn, oh well, the 3-9 does just dandy @ 6x anyway.

Re: SWFA SS 10x42 Tactical Riflescope

I just bought a 10x42HD about a month ago from SWFA, and it was a good experience all the way around. I mounted it on an M1A using a Sadlak mount and Super Sniper low profile rings, which sadly broke a hammer hook sometime during the first 100 rounds. (Springfield is doing a fast turnaround repair of my trigger group with the addition of a forged hammer, and I'll have it back in my hands by Friday next week in time for a hog hunt; but that's another story.)

I really liked the SS 10x42HD scope once I got it zeroed. Difficulty zeroing was my fault, not the scope's. I didn't have the ring caps torqued down tight enough, and zero was wandering. Once I discovered and fixed the problem, it took me 2 rounds to get into the bullseye.

I liked it enough that when the bank account comes back up, I'm going to probably buy a 3-9x42HD for my M1A and transfer the 10x42HD over to a Remington 700 VSF I have.

Pretty much everything that Lowlight said in his video review is true. The click detentes are very positive. The mil/mil adjustments and reticle work real well for correcting fall of shot. For the price, I'm very satisfied with the quality and precision of the scope. Also, the HD glass is very nice. I've never looked through one of the really high end scopes like a U.S. Optics or a Nightforce, but the SS HD glass compares very favorably to a Leupold VXIII 4.5-14x50mm B&C scope I own. It's nice and bright, no flares, and clear.

I hope that helps.
