Rifle Scopes SWFA SS 3-9x42 vs Vortex Viper HS 2.5-10x44

Both of these scopes seem to be very well built and have good glass, especially for their respective price points ($600 for the SS 3-9x42 and $400 for the Vortex Viper HS 2.5-10x44). Is the SS 3-9 worth 50% more than the Vortex 2.5-10? I am mainly focused on quality of glass and durability. How do these points compare?

Depends what your goals are. For me, FFP and mil/mil makes the SWFA SS the winner. Both are great scopes, but again it just depends on what your needs/wants are.

Thanks Jason. For the intended use, FFP and Mil/Mil are not high priorities.

Turrets and reticles are very different as well. I think the viper pst 2.5-10x44 stacks up bettwr against the swfa.

I have no exp. With vortex products. I do own a swfa 5-20 and the thing is built like a tank.
That said, I'm in the market for the same thing and have been compairing the swfa and the viper for days. I juat wish swfa would have included the 3-9 in the tax savings deal and made my decision easier.

You can find the super sniper used on samplelist.com for 500$.

If I went vortex I would get the PST model better knobs and reticule. You can get it from midway for 550 right now with coupon code 50$ off.

Personally I think the super sniper is of better quality but only marginally. Bother are good scopes and the PST brings a lot of features to the table for the price.

I have a Vortex Viper PST 2.5-10X44 sfp. I also have a SS 10X42 w/side focus. I can honestly say I like the SS better because of the larger field of view compared to the Vortex and don't ask me why but I swear the SS straight 10 power has more magnification than the other. I would tell you to look at the field of view of the different scopes because there is a significant difference between them. I prefer a larger field of view. Now how do you figure that my Vortex is a 44 and the SS is 42 yet the SS has a larger field. Now you say your interest is on the clearer glass? well I own both makes Vortex and Super Sniper and my vote go's to the SS....
