Hello Hide, I have been scratching my head for about a month now looking for good Optics in the $600 dollar range, I have narrowed it down to two scopes that i have heard nothing but good things about. The first is the Swfa SS 3-9x42, My second choice is the Sightron SIII 3.5-10x44 only dislikes are the capped turrets. Any thoughts would be appreciated

Are you talking about a parallax adjustment when you say rear focus? Because the SS 3-9x does not actually have a parallax adjustment. It was determined the magnification was not high enough on that scope that it is needed. If you check lowlights reviews of it he also says parallax is not a problem with that scope out to 800 yards at least. Mike McDonald has the same opinion of it as well.

Really they are two totally different scopes, one is FFP one is SFP, one has mrad adjustments the other in MOA.

Personally I would choose the SS scope because it is FFP and mrad adjustments, it makes things so much easier.

The S3 is more of a "benchrest" oriented scope where the SS is more in the "tactical" line.

I say the SS, but were a little biased.

Re: Swfa Vs Sightron?

Thanks the input everyone i went ahead and ordered the SS 3-9x42 with a pair of Seekins rings, The sightron is very nice but the mil/mil and is more of what i was looking for.

Re: Swfa Vs Sightron?

solid choice - same one I'll be making in the next week or so hopefully. SWFA has really made a nice optic with the SS 3-9.

Re: Swfa Vs Sightron?

I have never had a SS, but I do have a SIII. The SIII is a solid piece of glass and I would certainly consider another. I have never had a moments problem with mine and I have used it quite a bit. I do hear your dislike of the capped turrets. That is something I wish they would consider changing, but as others have mentioned, the design of the scope is not tactical. As others have said, your preference of adjustment between mil and MOA may make a difference as well.

For what it is worth, I would talk with Scott also.
