Not sure if this goes here or not but seemed the most fitting place. I purchased an AG stock fitted for a long action for the 280 ackley build I am doing. I switched to a 300PRC recently and it says it takes a full length magnum action vice the full length for the 280 ackley. I contacted them and they said the magazine the use is the wyatts extended mag box which online shows a 3.825" length inside. OAL for 300PRC is 3.7 and 280 ackley is 3.330".

Since the stock is designed to fit a long action, am I good with switching to 300PRC or is the full length magnum action different from what the 280 ackley uses?

The .280 AI uses a standard bolt face long action. the 300PRC will use a magnum bolt face. You could use the same action but the bolt head diameter for the PRC is larger. Unless you use a long action like savage or big horn that has interchangeable bolt heads, you will need to get a different bolt to make the switch to PRC.

So they’re both the same long action, just different bolt face? Luckily I’m still saving up for my Templar v2 action so it sounds like it’s a change that can be made. Am I correct? Thanks for the response as well.

Yes, both are long action still. If it were a factory action you might have issues with the feed rails being too narrow to fit the magnum rounds through into the action but with a Templar I have no idea on how they are cut. A call you GAP or Defiance (who actually makes it) would be advised.

As long as both are long actions. I was pretty sure the magnum was just for the bolt face and not a separate type of action. I am going to give them a call though just to make sure.

Case closed. GAP confirmed I could switch with no problems. It was only an issue because the stock has already been made, at lest according to the AG email I received from them. Thanks for the help.
