I'm shooting a T3x CTR .223 1/8 24" that is factory aside from being in a chassis. Currently feeding it Norma 69gr GTX that it seems to like. Last weekend shot 6x 5 shot groups at 100y that averaged 0.66" and this past weekend, 8x 5 shot groups that averaged 1.38", 0.69" adjusted to 100y. I'm sure my technique is leaving some meat on the bone.

I'll be attending school at the end of the month expecting to reach out to between 600 and 1000y, with a note that wind will be present. I'm thinking about trying out some heavier bullets.

So far looking at Federal Gold Medal Match 77gr and Blackhills Hornaday Match 75gr. I've seen Federal Gold Medal with Bergers at 73gr as well. What else should I be looking at?

Anyone have input on a good ammo choice for reaching out further with a factory CTR 1/8 24"?

Mk262 Mod 1, if you can find it.

If you plan on reloading in the future, AA2520, Varget or 8208XBR paired with the Sierra 77smk or TMK in LC brass and Rem 7-1/2 srps makes for a solid foundation for longer range 5.56 Nato loads. Perhaps see if any 80g high bc bullets will stabilize in your 8-twist bbl...Im personally not sure as all my 5.56 rifles have been gas guns using the 77gr SMK amd TMK

I'll have a look at the 77gr Bergers, thanks.

I'm kind of leaning towards the Federal GMM because they have a reputation for shooting well in just about anything.

Suppose I could buy a few hundred of both; unless one of them shoots like complete ass it'll still shoot them at some point.

Or....shoot the feds (all but guaranteed to be loaded softer) for barricade and group practice and save the sweet stuff for the long shots.

One of my boys doesn't handload and I showed him that federal blue box power shock 180s shoot twins with 175gmm and pretty close to berger 175 out to 200yds (his local range only has 100yds) from his stiller tac30 308. Just a thought.

Damn that's thinking!

He can shoot 100yds near his house every weekend (and shoot more rounds because the 180 power shok goes on sale after rifle season every year and he buys whatever the store has left) and save his more.expensive ammo for the days he drives out to shoot 1000yds.

Maximize time and dollar value on what you do most. Your 223 is actually the right way. You can shoot more ammo in the same number of range hours (lo.ger strings before barrel gets hot) and more rounds on the same dollar budget. I push guys getting into the game to.start with a quality 223 bolt.gun.
