I just got my Gemtech HVT QD and I am getting ready to order a TAB Anti Mirage shield. My question is should I get the Type one or two? I understand that the one has a split down the side, does this help keep it tighter and would it be better for a quick detach twist off style. Or, would the type two do the same job? Anyone have a problem with the type two stretching or just not fitting snug?

We also have the SAS 3 version, now which one do you choose.

If the new website ever gets off the ground it'll have this model as well. Currently if you want to order an SAS 3 you need to ask Lisa to make it an SAS 3 in the comments section when placing your order.

The SAS 3 does the same thing as the velcro SAS1 velcro model, but in a more streamlined package that has no velcro.

It looks like a SAS2 shock cord version from a distance but has no shock cord in it at all. The back has an internal ridge to keep it from sliding forward and the front has nothing to keep it from sliding back on the barrel.

Here's a picture of some SAS2 Shock cord covers. You can see that each end is kind of wrinkled up from the shock cord pulling the ends slightly closed.

Here are two pictures of the SAS3 version. You can see that there are no seams sewn around each end and that the ends are not wrinkled up. The cover comes flush to or maybe just behind the muzzle of the can. As you can see, it's a much more streamlined cover than the velcro version and will allow the cover to easily be slid to the rear to allow the can to cool and then slid back onto the can to resume firing.

I have the slip on version and its been great. It doesn't come loose you have to want it to come off for it to slide off, I haven't needed to take mine off since I put it on I just slide it down on the barrel to let the can cool when I am done shooting.
It is loose enough that you can turn it while its on the can but it won't come off. I don't see a need to get the one with velcro.

I have the slip on cover work great for me. I pull the cover to the rear where the shock cord cover is behind the back of the suppressor it never has moved forward. I have about 600 rounds down the tube. hope this helps

Some background on the SAS2, and SAS3

The SAS 2 was developed for some people who build items for the military. They asked me to come up with a cover that had no front or back so that if it was given to a soldier and the directions were lost there was no way to install it backward.

Advantages are there's no front or back, it won't slide back onto the barrel exposing the metallic can to sounding like a tuning fork if it's banged against trees, rocks, etc. when stalking.

Disadvantages would be, a little difficult to get on due to the shock cord at both ends, if you shoot a string of fire and the can is very hot and you decide you want to slide the can back off onto the barrel to let the can cool down you're going to ruin your cover. The outer Cordura is actually rolled under the can a little on the ends and if you pull the cover back over a hot can the Cordura will melt when it gets into the hotter part of the can. We have cans with over 2000 rounds of .338 LM through them with no damage to the can, and covers with over 3000 rounds of .308 with no damage. This cover is designed to mainly be left on the can.

The SAS3 came about when Zac Smith and Ray Sanchez of Thunder Beast suppressors contacted me and wanted the SAS1 and SAS2 combined. They wanted a stream lined cover like the SAS2, but no shock cord on the ends. They tested several prototypes out until I got the sizes like they liked, and here we are. The SAS3 has no Velcro, and no Cordura that can come in contact with the can. The back of the cover has a ridge that is built up with the inner heat resistant material to prevent the can from sliding forward under recoil. There is no shock cord in the front of the can.

Advantages would be, easy to get on and off, very easy to slide back onto the barrel to allow the can to cool and then very easy to slide back up onto the barrel when shooting begins again.

Advantages would be, it must be either installed on the can before the can is installed on the rifle or slid back onto the barrel before the can is attached to the rifle and then slid up onto the can. Will not work with cans like the Surefire that have the locking tab that sticks out to the side of the can because the built in ridge won't usually fit over it. The SAS 1 cover would be needed in this situation.

I don't know how people shoot a lot through a scoped rifle with a suppressor without getting a lot of mirage. The covers are a must if you are shooting a lot. I have noticed heavy mirage in as little as 10 rounds through a suppressor.

I have a 1 and a 2 and both work great. The 1 is on a screw on SRT and the 2 is on a Surefire QD. If your can is QD like the Surefire with a nut system in the back then I would suggest the 2 as it's easier to get at the QD. But for a screw on or QD without the nut both 1 and 3 would work well depending if you wanted to slid it off easier or not.

I've had a SAS1 and 3. The 3 is my favorite on all but my shorter barrels. On my 20" 308 AIAW I cannot pull the sas3 back far enough (hits forearm of stock) to completely come off my cyclone. So the front tip of mine has some fraying from the abuse a hot can sitting directly on it. For a short barrel i would reccomend a sas1. But if your can is shorter then the distance between the front edge of your stocks forarm and the muzzle shoulder, then a sas3 is a better cover.

Pulling it back off the can is almost a must if you want it to cool anytime soon and I like how easy the sas3 makes it.

great product but if you are like me you should get the slip on so you don't loose it.

Get different colors so you don't go to the range with the wrong supressor.

Just saying.........

Ordered a Gen III for my TBAC 30P-1 yesterday.
Made more sense to me than the Bowers / SLIPCOV on my precision rig due to cooling concerns.
The TAB cover can be slid to the rear to allow for more rapid cooling.
The Bowers cover allows for cooling via their ribbed design, but it still won't cool as fast as a naked can will.

I may still pick up a Bowers / SLIPCOV for my 5.56 can though.
My conclusion was that it is just more appropriate for an AR or SMG platform.

For a long range rig where you might be shooting 30-50 max in a 2hr period would cooling of the can be necessary? I havent shot with a suppressor yet but have a YHM QD Phantom coming soon. Just curious if I should go with a SAS3 or the SAS2. I will not be doing any rapid fire at all with it. and I plan to remove the can after im done shooting to put my rifle back behind my seat and the other one under the seat.

Will the sas2 be better as a case/protector since it fits tighter for when I put it away while it's still hot?

I'd recommend the SAS3 since some day you'll shoot a fast string and want to let the can cool by sliding the cover back onto the barrel.

The SAS3 is still pretty snug on the can and will provide the protection you're wanting when it's under your seat.
