I am hearing mixed reviews on this stock system. Some guys are telling me they are worthless, to heavy, and not designed very well. Other guys love them, over the AICS, and I hear that the Army Marksmanship unit holds them in high regards as well. So to all those that have shot with them or handled them.... let me know your opinions.

I am highly considering putting my Surgeon built 308 in one....

Thanks!

Re: TACMOD stock system??

I have one here for T&E.

It's got it's upsides and downsides. I am not going to keep my gun in it.

PROS:

1. It's by far the sturdiest stock I have ever used.
2. The stock folds and is infinitely adjustable. It also accepts any AR stock if you don't want theirs.
3. It negates the need to purchase other mounting solutions for NV/Lasers/bipods/slings etc. They're all included or built in. The rails are readily available from JP if you need more, and can be placed anywhere on the tube.
4. Plug and Play, just drop in your compatible Remington pattern action and torque the screws.

5. Takes common AICS mags

CONS:

1. It's by far the heaviest short action stock I have used. I put my AICS back on and it felt like a 10/22.

2. An MTU contour barrel BARELY clears the tube. Make sure yours will fit. I was not comfortable with the clearance my MTU had, personally.

3. The hinge for the folding portion locks up solid but is hard to manipulate. I would like to have seen some sort of push button lock rather than a hinge you have to force down.

4. The kydex cheekpiece would not stay put without using a tool to tighten the knobs

Two I don't wish to rate as pros or cons:

-Cost. Yeah, $1400 for a stock is a lot. Consider $1K for an AICS plus side rails, bottom rail, and a KAC NV mount and you're at $1800. A McMillan set up with similar way costs more also. Both lack the personal fit available with the Tacmod.

-Looks. I like it, some don't. You will have to decide that one for yourself.

This is all from M4Guru....you might pm him and see what he has to say about it

I've got one that I like.

Here's a couple threads about them that have some more opinions - althought M4Guru's info above is pretty good. I never used the knobs on my cheekpiece - just the allen-head bolts that are included, and once tightened (with a tool, obviously) they never moved. It's also supposed to be slightly lighter than an AICS, but I've never had an AICS!

Re: TACMOD stock system??

Im looking into the JP Rifles MOR-07 chassis system with the tubular front section. Its about the same as the AICS in cost but looks just like the TACMOD stocks.

Here is what I dont get.... Surgeon rifles (which I hold in very high regards) told me to not even waste my time on the TACMOD stocks not to long ago, they said they dont even sell to many a year. But they are one of two distributors for them? How does that help their business by turning people away? Maybe they are doing us a favor by saying "ya you dont want that, its a heavy piece of junk".

Ill see what evolves from the JP MOR-07

Re: TACMOD stock system??

I own one MOR-07, it is a excellent stock, i was shoping for longtime, don't get me wrong, there is EXCELLENT stock around too, but for me, noting can beat her. I have tried it few time with different R5 or 700P and even regular 700 (thin barrel look very bad in it) now, i have a surgeon action sitting in it and the Kriger barres will be screwed to the action soon now...

For me it was very painfull to import all that stuff, i'am surprised we don't see more of this US stock here, i also must say that i have received a very good service from JP and Kreiger
