Suggest this LE ammo for your purposes.

I am currently developing a handload for the 308 with this 168gr bullet in a 20" AR-10, and will be testing the resulting load in a 24" Bolt rifle as well. The goal will be to match up with the IMI 168 Semi-Auto Match load's accuracy while seeking better terminal performance.

You could cut your barrel shorter than 20", but I wouldn't.
