Tactical rifle / .308 / need crimp?

Is it necessary to put a crimp on these rounds if I am loading into magazines?

I am new to reloading .308 and I want to be sure what I am doing is safe, but also not affecting accuracy.

no , are you referring to a taper crimp or a lee collet die type crimp ?

dont exceed published max load data , follow your manual and dont let your ammo get to hot and you will be safe.

I was referring to a taper crimp. If it's not necessary then I will not be crimping these rounds.

I reload for .223 in a gas gun, so I know crimping is very important in that aspect.

No crimp needed. About .002" of neck tension is a good place to start.

I dont crimp my .223 loads in my AR , i never had a problem. I use a micrometer type seater die that usually does not have a taper crimp built in so thats why.

if i was using an RCBS seater with the built in taper , then ya i'd probably use the taper crimp.

allot of reloaders dont crimp their rifle ammunition at all , some do, but pistol ammo is a whole different story. You must crimp your pistol loads because you usually have to significantly flare the case mouth open to get the bullets to go in without damaging them

Shot HP for 10 plus years using 223 308 3006 in autoloaders...never crimped a round. And, I would only ever crimp 223 if I was loading bulk plinking rounds.....even the just a kiss of taper crimp.
