I am looking for a reliable set of picatinny ring for my sako A7 30-06. I would like to alternate scopes, red dot, etc. with reasonable return to zero. My goal is to achieve hunting accuracy out to 300 yards max. I like Warne QDs, but they are kind of wobbly in picatinny bases. Is any one using tactical rings as QDs? I know I would have to have the right size of wrench in my pocket, but they look sturdy to me.

What do you mean "wobbly"? What base do you have? On EGW picatinny bases they mount up fine and they are one of the cheapest ones. If you mean before they are done up then forget about it. slide them forward, do them up and you will be within 1MOA of your original POA.

Re: Tactical rings and QD capability

The A7 comes with factory installed 2-piece picatinny base.
Warne rings are built with weaver cross bars, which is narrower than picatinny's cross slot. As you said the wobble is evident before tightening it down. If it doesn't affect accuracy, I wouldn't mind it at all. My impression was if you had picatinny bases you needed picatinny rings.

Re: Tactical rings and QD capability

they aren't really as low as they sound i got a 50mm zeiss mounted on one set but its a 1" tube so any tube bigger than that probably wont work....they got some higher ones but they are probably too high. i think they only make 2 sizes....they def. have my fav. qd design though.....maybe someone will help ya out good luck

Re: Tactical rings and QD capability

The " wobble" occurs before tightening the levers to the base.
After that it's fine. Basically: you are placing a narrow weaver cross bar into a much wider picatinny cross slot. I might be wrong on this, but I'd think there is considerable amount of torque(besides the forward stress) on the cross bar.
If it is not held in place by a tight fitting slot, you'd have issues with it ?

Re: Tactical rings and QD capability

Put it on, slid it forwards and do it up.
There is no problem

Mine are the same yet go back very close to POA before removal.
If you want something else then buy it but I can't see that you have an issue at all.

Re: Tactical rings and QD capability

Thanks fellows, I'll go with Warne QDs then. It won't brake the bank and seems to be good enough for my application.
