Rifle Scopes Tactical scope for .223

Re: Tactical scope for .223

hey i am wanting to get into benchrest competition shooting and i have farm land where shoots out to 1,000 yards is possible tryin to keep my budget under 600 thanks for ur help

Re: Tactical scope for .223

If you shoot the heavier 223 bullets you should be able to get to 1000 no problem, and will probably not need tons of elevation to do it. 38-40moa is plenty.

A supersniper 16x would be a good choice, if you want variable power you could look at the vortex viper 6.5-20x, with a 20moa base.

Another good scope in that price range is the Sightron SIII, or one of the Bushnell 4200 series.

Re: Tactical scope for .223

You are the man being able to hit 1000 yds consistantly with a .223. I couldnt do that.

I am a big fan of the Vortex line of scopes, and they are a great company. Guys here on the Hide have posted comments about problems they have had with a Vortex problem, and someone from Vortex will be on the thread ASAP and start taking care of the problem. You cant beat that.

They support us, We should support them!

Good Luck

Re: Tactical scope for .223

If you can't hit the target with a .223 and reasonable loads then you can't hit them with anything

The only real issue is windage. It's not much different to a .308.

As an example, I've been getting a friend into shooting. She has come about 6 times now and is hitting clays at 600 with a .223 FAR too big for her. She has even outshot me on paper targets quite a few times and I'm going to have to spend more time focussing on what I am doing so I don't look like a fool while helping her

This is under variable and quite heavy winds.

BR, Target and "tactical" are different.
For the type of use you want (not "tactical") the Bushnells seem to have alot of rave reviews. I'm currently working it out between a Vortex 6.5-20 (bit lower mag than I want at the top end) and the Bushnell 4200 6-24. Have a 8-32 on another .223 for the same use. This gun is lighter so will probably go for the Vortex.

I would forget about Falcon and ANY scope not making it to 20x at least. If it was a real "tactical" use gun then it's a bit different. For target use you want all the power you can cope with under the conditions. Variable means you can change the power to suit the conditions. Side "focus" is also handy as you tend to use it more often with variations of power and light conditions.

Re: Tactical scope for .223

Thanks guys for the help its just a hard decision i didnt know what you guys thought was overkill for a .223 or if there were such thing the cartridge i preety efficient but thats my thoughts

Re: Tactical scope for .223

Stick to the ~20-24 power and you'll be fine. The busnell 4200's are great scopes and very repeatable, I have a 3200 and it's never failed to return to zero or adjust properly, the 4200's are a cut above the 3200's. It's solid, it should serve you well for a .223 at those ranges.

You may not need the 50mm objective, its heavier and doesn't help much in typical daylight conditions. But if you prefer it, go for it. I have 50's on my guns because I just like the brightness in the evenings.

Re: Tactical scope for .223

Yeah the 3200 Tactical. Works fine, the knobs are good and reset pretty easily, the glass is okay too. It has about 80 MOA of travel so you will probably still need a 15 or 20 MOA base to get to 1000.

I just use a Leupold 1-piece base with 1" medium rings, with a .020" shim under the back of the base. Works great and on my rifle it gives me 54 MOA of up elevation.

Re: Tactical scope for .223

I have a Bushnell tactical elite 4200 on my 30-06. With a 20moa base I can get to 1000yds at about 34-36 min, I believe the scope has 55min of elevation built into it. great scope, very bright and love the left side focus knob. Can see targets with ease at 1000yds

Re: Tactical scope for .223

I've used a Leupold Var-X III 6.5-20x40 EFR on my Colt 6600 HBAR for a number of years and had good results out to 600 yards. Thre arsn't any 1000 yard ranges nearby.
