I need some help picking a rifle to build a trainer. Remington 40x's are nearly impossible to find for a reasonable price and I want a repeater. Sako's are getting hard to find just a rifle not the set of barrels. So I am basically left with few choices. If you would help me pick one I would be greatful. The few choices I have left I need to know if there are adequete amounts "upgrades" such as a bolt knob, and especially a stock. Thanks, ADT

Re: Tactical Trainer

Thanks Steve, I just sent a message to McMillan to see if they can inlet either an A-4 stock or an A-5 (I can't decide) for either a CZ or an Annie. Im not so sure about spending $850 just for an action.

Re: Tactical Trainer

Cheap: Savage MkII. Cheap and there are some stocks available

Middle Road: Sako Quad, stocks and barrels available.

Top end: 40x (although it's a single shot). The pros are that it accepts any stock a 700 will and you can have it barreled with a .22 tube from anyone you want. They won't get any cheaper and selling it later won't be a problem.

Other option is to wait for the Stiller Repeater. It's rumored to be a M700 footprint thus it will have the greatest stock options and triggers.

If you think you may possibly want a 40x you need to look now. The bunch that are coming from CMP are popping up for sale. Once the horse traders get done making their money off of them they probably won't be floating around often.

You didn't say that it had to be a bolt gun, so a 10/22 may be an option.

Re: Tactical Trainer

Savage has 2 new "tactical" rimfires coming out very soon, they are always shooters. Also an older model Remington 513 or 541T are always good bets, and newer Remmy 504's are shooters but not cheap.Pretty much any of these can be built up into a trainer as long as you don't mind spending some chinga..

Re: Tactical Trainer

While I'm a lucky 40x owner, and have a CZ452 in 17HMR, I've always had an interest in the Anschutz Model 64 MPR Multi-Purpose Repeater Rimfire Rifle, .22 LR, use the search function a check out what a fellow hide member did with his (post was later last week if I remember correctly)
