Any opinions on Tactical Weapons Solutions AR 10 ? I can't find any reviews for them. I saw the their 308 rifle at the gun show in Orlando, but I can't seem to find anything on them.

Their rifle looks good. Any opinions ?

Re: Tactical Weapons Solutions AR 10 ?

This is the Aluminum they are using...TWS/Tactical Machining 7075T6 Aluminum Billet Lower Receiver.

Since I cant find reviews anywhere ,I am not saying it is a piece of crap, it could be the best rifle out there. I just hate to spend the $$$ and have it jam etc.

Re: Tactical Weapons Solutions AR 10 ?

Maybe someone else on this forum has actual experiance with them. They seem to be a new kid on the 308 AR block.

Re: Tactical Weapons Solutions AR 10 ?

I cant find anything about the 308 on their site. I would like to see more Armalite pattern 308 ARs out there. Its getting crowded with cookie cutter Sr25s, we need variety, its the spice of life.

Re: Tactical Weapons Solutions AR 10 ?

That link should take you right to their 308 page. As far as seeing more Armalite pattern 308's, don't hold your breath. The firearms industry has pretty much adopted the SR-25/DPMS mags as standard. The SR-25 mag is actually an updated mag compatible with the original AR-10 waffle mags. Unless another AWB hits, I don't foresee any other manufacturers jumping on the modified M14 mag platform that Mark Weston adopted for the current Armalite AR-10's.

Re: Tactical Weapons Solutions AR 10 ?

Also, I think I could not see anything because I am currently having many issues with Firefox not loading sites properly. Just realized that was the problem in this case. Damn free stuff not working grade A.

Might want to research that a bit. There are several manufacturers that use the "Mark Westrom adopted" platform and as a matter of fact, many prefer them. I hear some of them are pretty good rifles

. Where have you been for the last several years? DPMS has had more than there share a mag related issues and thier QC had pretty much gone in the crapper, thats if they ever had any to begin with. Armalite addressed thier issues years ago, thier systems run with anyones.

okie

Re: Tactical Weapons Solutions AR 10 ?

I've never heard of this company, but its cool to see somebody making an AR pattern 308 using a Douglas barrel. They make good stuff. Unfortunately Douglas doesn't make AR barrels so they must be turning and chambering a Douglas blank themselves.

Re: Tactical Weapons Solutions AR 10 ?

Slightly OT but I wonder if Compass Lake turns these blanks? The Mk12 5.56 spr uppers had Douglas barrels I believe. A few places sell the 18" SPR barrels in .223 and some list them as Douglas profiled by CLE.

Re: Tactical Weapons Solutions AR 10 ?

The TM lowers are great but like mentioned before these are DPMS patterned (radius rear receiver). The upper appears to be the lower height seeing as you can tell the rail on the Troy doesn't line up properly (look at the fourth picture) If you add up the cost of the parts listed (other than the barrel) you're getting screwed

TM lower $220
DPMS Upper $165
Chrome BCG $250
Troy MRF $210
Low Pro Gas Block $40
Rifle Gas Tube $12
Standard 308 LPK $60
Magpul 308 PRS $200
Ergo Grip $20
YHM Phantom 308 Flash w/crush washer $45
308 Rifle Buffer w/spring $30
A2 Receiver Ext $25
Magpul 7.62 Pmag $20
"Tactical Bipod (give them benefit of the doubt that it is a Harris although I doubt it) $70

Thats $1367 before the barrel at prices that I can find without any wholesale discount just shopping around.
You can get a Rainer Ultra Match 308 Barrel for under $400.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, Holy Crap thats pretty expensive for what it is, then again the Barrel could cost around $800, I don't know

Re: Tactical Weapons Solutions AR 10 ?

I purchased a TWS-10 from TWS. They now carry their logo on the lower. I have a 16" with a TRX Troy ind. rail. It does still carry a PRS stock Assembly and I am happy about the standard automatic upgrade of the extractor. I was sold on the rifle and how the workmanship was. Very good looking rifle and its been just as quality in the field. I would suggest someone to try them out. The service was good. Made my purchase easy, explained to me in detail about their specs and answered questions I had as well.
After looking at your numbers, if your willing to wait to find companies putting pieces and parts on sale and collecting them over time, you may get close to that number. I agree, the barrel is a question of quality and cost with some companies, but i'll say I am very impressed with my TWS barrel and it does every bit of what my rep said it would. So, their may be a slight increase in their cost for that.
Overall, if you want to build and wait for low cost items and dont mind the wait, go for it. But to give TWS their dues, That may be their cost plus their cost of business opperations. And I was impressed so I have no issue with what I payed. Not to mention, my rifle carries a Lifetime Warranty to back it up.
I will be back to purchase again.

Evidence of crappy QC? I haven't seen it.

Their mags may not be perfect, but they have the advantage of having Magpul Mags made for them.

The general market has adopted the SR-25/DPMS platform more so than the Armalite/Mark Westrom.

Re: Tactical Weapons Solutions AR 10 ?

Looks like they just updated their website. www.twsarms.com. Should check it out at least just to register. They are giving out a free AR15, they are drawing one every month. Seems like they are getting into the parts and pieces market as well.

I was there as well at the Orlando gun show. I bought the TWS-10, 308, Nickel Boron Model. They went all out on that one!!! Came with bi-pod and carrying case. Was very pricey, but well worth the price that I got it for!!!! They don't sell that model any more as far as I know. It's not on the tws web page anymore. It shoots very well and clean-up is very easy. The ONLY down side is, it weighs over 14lbs. with full mag., scope, sling and bi-pod. I can't see why they took it off the market.
