Whats your guys "take" on the take off barrels you see from time to time. I can't afford a custom barrel right now and was thinking of trying to find a take off in .260 rem. So would you guys trust em or not?

Re: Take off barrels

I had the same thought today as I am considering putting mine up for sale but didn't know what the market is. I have a 3 month old Kreiger MTU in 6.5 X 47 Lapua that is an unbelievable tac driver. It has produced many .35" 5 shot groups at 300 yds I want to build a fluted barrel that can support a can. Do you know what the value would be for mine?

Re: Take off barrels

Factory barrels generally contain stress due to the way they're manufactured (cheap) so expect POI to shift if it gets really hot (rapid firing).

Run Tubbs Final Finish bullets through the factory barrel and then just shoot the hell out of it with minimal cleaning. After a hundred rounds or so Remington factory barrels "settle in" and you can expect sub-moa accuracy from a factory barrel. Clean only when accuracy drops off, and then it takes another 20 or so rounds to get it shooting as it was before.

I agree with the above but will add that JB non-embedding bore paste can also work too. I'm sure there are many options to knock down the rough edges.
