Gunsmithing Takedown rifles

Re: Takedown rifles

I think Brown Precision still makes them.
The stock doesn't go anywhere...the barrel has a flip lever and then you twist it 1/4 turn to remove the entire barrel.
You can get them in a multi caliber - multi barrel setup (or at least you could).

I shot one years ago...it was very accurate and removing the barrel and then putting t back on *maybe* changed point of impact .100" if at all.
Very nice, very pricey.

For an absolute top of the line rifle:
http://www.nemesisarms.com/

Nemesis Windrunner fits in a briefcase when taken down. Barrels available in 308win, 243win and 338Federal.
I have handled one, and it seems to be top notch in terms of machining. Comes with one barrel, the briefcase and I think the backpack.

I am afraid to ask how much it costs because there are no prices on the website, and It is probably one of those "If you have to ask, you can't afford it" kinda things.

You have just got to see one of those Nemesis Windrunner rifles if you haven't!
It's really something! Not only a work of art, but it shoots!

The owner claimed he had shot 5" groups at 750 yards with no significant POI shift after being broke down hot, then assembled and shot again 1 hour later!

Never even thought about the history of takedowns, but that makes sense. Savage made the 99s in that configuration.

Re: Takedown rifles

at last years silencershoot KAC had a 700PSS with a m110 can on the front and the factory stock modified to come apart- it was as solid as could be, they cut it through the grip put a tread insert into the action side and a threaded rod coming out of the other side with a thumbwheel that stuck out to tighten it. wouldnt mind cutting my ltr down to 16" and doin the removeable butstock to it.
