Rifle Scopes Talk me out of epoxying my base to action

I am sick of screws loosening up. I want to put some devcon on between the tac rail and action and just screw it down. Should I put epoxy on the screws too? I figure I can always heat it with my heat gun to remove. Thoughts?

Never had too much of an issue with loctite and proper torque.

Use red loctite if you can't seem to get the screws to stay tight. There's no need to epoxy the base to the action. If the red loctite doesn't work (from some force of God) then just put a little dab of epoxy on the screw threads. That way it wont be completely permanent i.e. your gunsmith can drill them out and just open the threads up if you decide to change bases.

I use Devcon. Most of the time the base needs to be bedded anyways. I just don't use any release agent when I'm bedding it.

You can remove later with just a little heat.

While you certainly could epoxy the base on, you'll have to take it off when you rebarrel. Depending how often that is, it might not be worth the trouble.

Great guys. Thanks for all the input. Most of these will be on rifles that get shot very little. Maybe 100 rounds a year.

I do this as well, release agent on the screws only, reinstall after set up with loctite.

I've also heard that fingernail polish will work. I'm sure not as well as loctite but you don't always have a choice!

Get rid of that 1940 styled action that is made for open sights and get yourself and action with an integral rail

I use Loctite 638 between rails and actions.
Works with modular scope mounts as well.

I would love for you to tell my wife I need to get new actions for my rifles

I have tried fingernail polish (not mine, my wife's) and it didn't work that great even after acetone and dry time.
