Currently I am using a 4X Trueglow pirated from one of my airsoft toys on my CZ 455 Varmint Evolution. My main act is using a Tikka TAC A1 in CM, but I seldom get a chance to shoot over 300 yards. So the .22 or .17HMR is what I intend to train with.

Right now I am looking at this Bushnell in big part because it has a Christmas tree reticle and it is at, or somewhat below, the price point I would like to stay at. Mostly used for training and some local matches all at 40 to around 100 yards. But training with the .17HMR will go to 300 yards.

Not happy it is MOA or SFP, but under $US300, maybe $US500, I can't find anything except Barska stuff; which I am really not happy with.

Would really like a variable scope for training but the SWFA 10X is, na I want variable, but.

Help me out here, is there anything close to the price point you guys would suggest; maybe one of the Athlons or something else.

The SWFA 3-15 is on the higher end of that price bracket but certainly a serviceable option there. You might also find a Gen 1 PST around that $500 mark. Either of those would be my recommendations but admittedly I don’t have much experience with many other optics in that realm.

Honestly, I won't own a variable in SFP unless it will only serve on a hunting rifle. Even at that, I only have them in lower powered variables. Come to think of it, the only SFP optic I have is a 1.5-8x32 Razor HD LH for a single shot .243. For a rifle that will primarily be utilizing the MPBR technique, I'm fine with this. I wanted a simple, light weight, quality optic, and this fit the bill. I'll likely find a nice 1-4x or thereabouts for a .22LR Mannlicher I have as well, just for giggles.

Other than that, I won't own an optic unless it's FFP, for too many reasons to list. In your price bracket, I would suggest that you a) save just a little bit more, and b) that you wait patiently for a used SWFA 3-15x42 FFP milquad to come along. If you're patient enough, you'll often find them in the $500-550 range. I think it's the best option going at that price, but I also have no experience with Athlon.

I HAVE seen a Vortex HSLR 2.5-10x32 or three sell for around $400, which gives you FFP, and a Christmas tree reticle, but the turrets are capped (doesn't mean you can't dial, you just want to make sure you don't lose them!) and the 32mm objective limits you a bit unless you're in good lighting, but I found the one I had for a bit to otherwise be a good optic.

Athlon talos btr

It’s an awesome scope for 300. Call cameralandny and see what they’ll do for a hide member on it. Tell them b&h has it listed for 254 shipped and they will match it if they dont beat it.

You guys are killing me.

Called Cameralandny. Got an Ares with a Christmastree in MRAD and the Talos with a Christmastree in MRAD. So now I will have to take the Athlon off my TAC A1, put the Ares on it, take the Nikon 223 off y CTR and put the Athlon on it, put the Nikon on my Keltec RFB after, and put the Talos on my CZ 455 after I take the 4X Trueglow off it; not to mention have to zero them all.

Serves me right. Unless I change that up by switching scopes and platforms.

Oh my lord, for all the times I have played musical scopes, just tom play it again a few months later. LOL I think you will like the Ares. I am pretty impressed for what you can get sub 1k anymore.
