As the title says. I have been eyeng a flamming pig for a 18 inch Sass barrel from DPMS. This is for a build i am putting together that is designed for ranges from up close to 500 yards. Should i get the pig or more cost effective for something else. I also like the vortex but who knows. talk to me people. help me make up my mind.

Thanks

Kirk

You know im wondering the same thing hopefully some one that owns one will post. From what I have heard they are great.

Re: Talk to me about a noveske flaming pig for lr308

I own a couple of the 5.56 models and they work as advertised. They are heavier than other options but they direct the muzzle blast forward away from the shooter better than any other comps or breaks that I've seen.

The KFH/KX3's that I have are now relegated to range duty and I use a Battle Comp 2.0 on my work gun. The Noveske's don't see much use as I run suppressors more often than not on my range guns.

Re: Talk to me about a noveske flaming pig for lr308

I always thought the flaming pig was designed to create backpressure for SBR rifle functionality.

I have a PWS FSC30 that should be here tomorrow *crosses fingers* so I should have a range report about that. It will be on a 16" 308 AR.

Re: Talk to me about a noveske flaming pig for lr308

Usually the flaming pigs go on SBR type rifles, they supposedly trick the gun into thinking the barrel is longer. IE back pressure.
They do direct the muzzle blast forward and work as advertised to not blow out your buddies ear drums (like most comps) if you are standing beside him in a house or on the line.
On a 14.5 and longer I would get a something else... phantom, vortex, surefire, Battle comp. I am getting the Surefire flash suppressor for my .308s and eventually going to suppress.

Re: Talk to me about a noveske flaming pig for lr308

I bought a rifle that came with the KX3. It is alright, but I found it to be more of a comfort thing for your fellow shooters that complain about the concusion of your SBR. I don't think you will see any benefits using it on an 18 inch rifle.

Re: Talk to me about a noveske flaming pig for lr308

I currently run a KX3 on my Noveske 10.5 CGB for patrol/team use. When I asked the folks at Noveske about a KX3 on my 14.5 Afghan, they said that it works better on barrel lengths less than 14.5. They aren't opposed to selling you one, but they indicated that there was no great benefit. Where the KX3 shines is on the short barrels.

You may wish to contact Noveske Rifleworks and speak to Joel.

Great company, great products, great people.

HTH.

Forgot about the SBR aspect. I haven't tried one on a barrel longer than 10.5".

Thanks for all the input. Should i go with a standard A2 flash hider and save money for reloading supplies or get a more trendy flash hider like Surefire or something??

Re: Talk to me about a noveske flaming pig for lr308

LOL nothing. Just seems that the popular thing is to but a fancy flash hider. Considering I will not be shooting hardly any at night. Or would a muzzle break be a better idea? Just tossing it around.

Thanks again

Look at a Troy Claymore. I am waiting on my 2 POF 14.5 inch with those mounted. Hope they work
They wont look as silly as the Nov. on a longer barrel

A quality muzzle break is the way to go unless you are shooting at night or lights out. Even then when shooting at night a weapon light will tone down the muzzle flash of a break to a acceptable level.

Re: Talk to me about a noveske flaming pig for lr308

I would pass on a KX3 and go for a more traditional Comp. It's really meant for SBRs and Close quarters work in a team. They work great when your in doors and shooting with others who have them, I have a Brakeout and a aure fire brake as well as the PWS 556, they are loud as shit but 3 of my buddies have KX3 and they save my hearing.

Re: Talk to me about a noveske flaming pig for lr308

I would't waste your money. Look into the Battel Comp for the 308. The rifle will not move, hence faster follow up shots. My buddy has one on his AR10 308. I watched him hit s gong at 300 yards every shot damn near rapid firing and the gun never moved. This is why he was able to ring the gong so fast.
