I've got a savage 10-fp, I've been looking for a 40moa taper scope base. I can't seem to find one. Everything in that high of an moa is for the remi 700. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks
give evolution gunworks a call, they should make you one, even though it's not a listed item, IIRC Ken Ferrell will also, in fact Ferrell offers a 30 MOA
Well.... Funny you ask cause I'm sure there is goin to be plenty of doubt. A friend of mine and I have set out on a bit of a project. We want to attempt a mile shot with a .308. The main goal is to do it with what's in the closet. Not going out and building a purpose built rifle. So on that note, I'm sure there will be lots of skepticism but any intel is always appreciated.
Well, I suppose it could be done, but it seems like an exercise in futility. I'm sure its been done, and there are many better tools for doing it, as well as the lack of useful energy at that range to do anything but keyhole a sheet of wet extra soft toilet paper.
But who am I to tell you what to do
good luck with that I guess, make sure to tell us how it went.
I was looking at doing the same thing with my Savage 10FP. I have shot it to 1000 no problem and figure its cheap enough to load and lob some lead around at a mile. I bought a box of the 208gr A-Max in hopes of reaching my goal. I will need another base too because mine is only 20MOA. Let us know how your quest goes, I'd love to know how your equipment does since mine may be quite similar.
I shot my 308 savage fcp-k to a mile.. You really don't need to get a new base I your not going to do it often.. Just max out the elevation on your scope, then holdover the rest... It took me a total of something like 102.5moa for the hit. It was something like Maxing out the elevation and holding in the middle of the black lower bar at 7x on my vortex viper.
It was surprisingly consistent elevation wise but be prepared to be thrown around like crazy if there is absolutely any wind.
I will definatly let you know. The largest taper I have been able to find has been a 30 moa from ferrel. If my math is correct, that should just barely do it but I'd like to have a little room to play with. I'm still trying to find that magic bullet that has the right bc and isn't too heavy to hinder the performance. Let me know how those 208s work.
