As the swamp keeps dithering of how to keep screwing us while looking like they are doing us a favor one point of the proposed tax changes I keep hearing about is the State Tax Deduction.

Despite coming from a state in which losing that deduction will likely hurt my Federal tax bottom line I am giddy at the prospect of just that happening.

Why don't I see any of the talking heads mentioning.......

    A) The high tax states shouldn't get subsidized on Federal taxes by having high state taxes

    B) Fuck the high tax state people because by voting in high tax state politicians they will now feel the full brunt of their stupid decisions.

    C) By letting people in high tax states feel the full effect of high state taxes and not being able to claim a deduction perhaps they will not be so ready to vote in tax and spend liberals going forward.

If I can see the beauty of that why don't people promoting tax reform promote it?

I can give you a very simple, accurate answer.

Because the people with big money own the politicians. Life is much simpler when you own your politicians.

    End of discussion.

I agree why should the Feds subsidize States that can't control their spending. But then again I think the Feds can't control their own spending. Deficit spending should only be allowed during a time of Declared total war. But if we made that a law they would just declare wars everywhere.

But this is a tasty bone to the good people of this country.

Places like Wyoming - where there are some rich people - that have low or no state taxes now have accesses to more federal money being provided by the rich liberals of New York no longer being able to reduce their federal burden through the deduction of high state taxes.

My fear is that rich city liberals that only want to spend other peoples money, not their own, will leave the high tax states and move to the low tax states and ruin their new homes.

I have no intention of leaving my high tax state at present and living in the middle class Ill probably not feel much pain because of this change with my wife and I doubling our deduction under the new proposal. Perhaps enough rich tax evaders like local resident John Forbes Kerry will leave the state that we can change the political bent of the state government.

The conservative people of means will be feeling some pain for this and they already are the ATM for at least 50% of the country.

For them my hope is that this will bring sanity to state tax policies. People are stupid and do fall for the scam "Oh don't worry what you are paying, you will be able to take a deduction on that". Take that statement out of play when the state legislature talks taxes.

Agreed with FS1 - If I have to balance my checkbook and write checks backed by real money so should the govt.
