Check your numbers. The top 0.1% pays 18.5% of all the taxes. The top 1% pays 38% of the taxes </div></div>
Well, our numbers have only a 1.5% difference, probably within year to year variation. Either way, it's still shocking how much we leech of so few...

Re: Tax refunds....wtf

Get an accountant. I spend 450.00 every year on one. I bring in receipts and print my year long bank statement. Make a ton more back than I do if I were to file on my own. My brother in law is a CPA. He had me paying 900. I did it myself and I made it to 200 paid to me. Took to a tax guy, got 600 minus fees. Its 1500 bucks in my pocket. -900 to +600 net gain of 1500.

Re: Tax refunds....wtf

My cousin is a single mom with 2 kids. Sucks off of the gov't and makes $9 per hour. paid in $75 to federal tax throughout the year. Received over $7000 in return.

Guy I work with is married, wife is a "student", 2 kids. $9000 in return.

Beginning to wonder why my wife and I work. Combined income of $67,000 1 kid, return of $150. Woo Hoo! Spend that at a restaurant in 1 night.

Our biggest form of socialism is the tax return.

Problem with that logic is that even though you got back $1500 you still lost the interest that you gave away over the course of the year. Remember that you didn't "get" $1500 you over paid by $1500. You need to change your withholding because all you really did was give the gov't an interest free $1500 loan...

Re: Tax refunds....wtf

My mother in law is one who heard we got 5500 back from fed she said, "WOW I WISH I HAD A BIG REFUND!" I replied...

"Well, we paid 28k in taxes to the feds, and I overpaid by 5.5k so if you want a 5.5k return, pay them an extra 5.5k."

Yes, she stood there like a moron doing her typical, I don't want to pay that much but I want the end result like you have. Yes she is from oregon, yes she is a teacher and yes she worked 12 long hard ass years to get her retirement. Sarcasm invoked yes.

My parents are retired teachers, but they are not morons, dunno what multivitamin my mother in law takes, but it really helps her set the bar for stupid.

We need a flat consumption based tax system with no end of the year vote buying kickbacks. </div></div>

Re: Tax refunds....wtf

UGH! TAXES. I need to do them soon. I am self employed, I can take a lot off in taxes, but you never get half what you pay in, back. We should pay 5% across the board, call it a day. No refund, no withholdings, nothing taken out of your wages, flat 5% on April 15.

Make sure you are maxing out your SEP-IRA contributions. If you don't have an SEP-IRA you are making a huge mistake.
