It would be on a Wilson combat AR 15, just trying to figure out if I truly need the 338 ultra or if I could get by with the hyperion. On a gas gun, it is likely to be quieter at the ear with a smaller suppressor (ie, the one with less backpressure).
I would add to this list the KG made R30. They have a interesting system of ports on the end of the suppressor you can open and close to reduce back pressure. Plus they manufacturer dead airs suppressors so they can definitely do high quality. An AR15 of any kind (yours in 6.8SPC) is a totally different ball game. In that case, back pressure of the suppresor matters way more than noise at the muzzle. So the two suppressors you mention in your OP are both not very good options for that host. An adjustable gas block is also a huge boon for lowering at-the-shooters-ear DB numbers.
Right now that means you'd want the CGS Helios QD, OSS 7.62QD TI (if you don't care as much about flash suppressor and don't mind cleaning your can frequently), or maybe the TBAC Dominus K SR.
My buddy uses his 338 ultra on his Larue 7.62 AR and it is awesome on there. Reduces recoil greatly and is considerably quieter than other cans we use.Like everyone said those are huge cans meant for bolt guns shooting magnums. For an AR you want an OSS or Dominus K series for less back pressure and a form factor that makes more sense. The 338 ultra is awesome but really not suited for an AR.
Very interesting, thank you for that link!No doubt the 338 is awesome, but I think you can do better on a gas gun. TBs sound tests show the Dominus K as being quieter, and it’s much smaller and lighter as well. Clear answer here is buy both
