Looking to pick up a can for my Tikka 6.5CM build. In between the Dominus or Ultra7. Any recommendations on which to go with? Want to stick with a .30 cal. Anything else I’m missing? Thanks in advance!

The Ultra is still our recommended application for .30 cal and smaller bolt guns. The Dominus was developed to solve a different problem, hence the SR version of it. There's nothing wrong with the Dominus in SR or CB versions for bolt guns, though. It really comes down to form factor vs. suppression.

Thanks - mind if I ask why the Ultra is recommended? Any deviation in accuracy between the two? Will also be used on a 6.5 PRC. I apologize in advance if these are elementary questions. Just want to make sure my choice is an educated one.

The dominus is said to suppress better then the ultra 7 and it’s shorter, the only penalty is a larger diameter. I personally don’t see any reason not to get the dominus. For me it’d be between the dominus and ultra 9.

Thank you. I’d be interested in the Ultra 9 as well. Just didn’t know if the extra 2” was worth it. My wife would disagree...

Depends on the use, range only where size doesn’t matter probably the ultra 9. But with the dominus suppression numbers being between the 7 and 9 it’d be a good dual purpose hunting/range can.

That is till the dominus K CB comes out...hint hint @Zak Smith

So you’re saying wait until 2021??

Haha well the dominus K CB mount would be a great hunting can due to its size but a larger can would be better for range use. Again depends what your uses are and how many cans you want. Having dedicated suppressors is a great thing.

I had a similar dilemma when the announced the Dominus. I ended up change my Ultra 7 to the Dominus as the little improved suppression and reduced length out wieghted the increase diameter.
