OK, so I took the plunge on the spotter and I'm now seriously considering getting an ARD, where is the best price in town?
Do used ones come up for sale? and are the Tenebraex and the Leupold products one and the same? What about butler Creek is that an option? Thanks in advance troops!

I looked for a long time and eventually picked up the ARD for full price ~ $140 on Amazon. I've rarely seem them up for sale here. AFAIK, the Leupold and Tenebraex are the same (someone correct me if I'm wrong). Never looked at the Butler Creek.

EDIT: Check out this thread for more info/options.

Thanks, it looks like Optics Planet may be the "best bang for the buck" right now. They have the Leupold tripod as well, and free shipping.

Totally agree on this, skip the Leupold tripod and get a Manfrotto 055 or 190 or go with something like this . B&H Photo has decent prices on good quality tripods and they have pretty good customer service, they are who I bought my Manfrotto tripod and head through. Just sayin'...

+1. Don't skimp on the tripod or you'll only achieve frustration. I had the Leupold tripod (it came with my spotter) and while it was not completely useless, it was difficult to use when trying to get lined up on target (particularly at longer distances). The main issue is that the ballhead on that particular tripod doesn't handle fine adjustments very well. Thus, positioning the reticle exactly where you want it when calling adjustments or milling targets takes longer than it should. A manfrotto will work great.

So my ARD arrived, the installation was some what frustrating?

I know that it just screws on, however it was difficult?
I could only get it on with one turn maybe? it wouldn't bottom out to the shoulder? I was very careful since they are fine threads?
Its' the right part #, just wondering if this is normal?
There seems to be some paint on the threads?

Any advice

OK I figured this out, I talked to a smith buddy of mine and he reminded me that alum on alum is a no no. Why didn't I remember that?.So a little SLIP 2000 grease and some patience and it screws on like a charm.Anyway I'm surprised I could miss something so simple, but isn't that usually the way. Just an FYI for ya.

Mildot, I painted the beginning threads on mine with the smallest bit of EEZOX, let it dry, and it's much easier install/remove.
The SLIP is a great idea as well.
When you go to install it, turn it counterclockwise till it "clicks", then tighten. Always a great idea on fine fragile threads at risk of cross threading.
