I thought I read somewhere that the tennon and head spacing are the same on both of these actions. Can anyone confirm this? If so I could run an impact prefit on a lone peak fuzion?

There are people that do it, but some of the earlier lone peak stuff has varying head spaces. You may want to contact lone peak, or some of the more prominent smiths that build off them just to make sure yours will head space correctly. For example, I built a hunting rifle off a lone peak fuzion last year, and Travis at TS Customs requested that I send my action in due to the serial number being below a certain number. I can't remember off the top of my head what serial number (believe it was in the 300's) where the tolerances allowed prefit type barrels.

It would be a brand new action that I would order now. Proof has prefits for impacts and would like to get one if it fits a new lone peak.

TS Customs (among others), can spin you up a shouldered prefit for the LP Fuzion. Great work and quick turnaround times.

Buy a barrel blank from a store of your choosing (Bugholes has excellent selection and keeps a lot in stock) and drop ship it to him, or see if he has a blank to your liking in stock.

That's what I would do (and have done), always happy with the results.

I can get a better deal through proof so I want to go that route. Just want to make sure an impact barrel will headspace ok on a fuzion.

Nah. Rather get a lone peak. They are much smoother
.
[/QUOTEthat has been the opposite of my experience, but they are both nice. I found this from another post

] I'm curious now as well. I"d be hesitant to say yes, but looking at the tennon spec on Lone Peaks website, a Impact should fit a Lone Peak Fusion, but I wouldn't 100% say a Lone Peak would fit an Impact. The Lone Peak barrel fitting an impact would be darn close. As for headspace, I would defintely check with gauges. Impacts drawings have a headspace measurement, no peaks do not. So can't say there for certain.
Circling around on this I asked another gunsmith friend who offers prefits for both Lone Peak and Impact. It's one of those close but not quite situations. Timing of threads and the engraving probably wont match up and while the headspace spec is the same there is a larger counterbore on an Impact barrel vs a Lone Peak, leaving more unsupported case than you have to. So while it would function and headspace it's not ideal. Better to just go to a gunsmith who can cut you a Lone Peak barrel to the perfect specs.

Because proof offers prefits For impacts on experticity for a ridiculously low price. If one fits I will buy it, if it doesn’t fit Then I will buy a lone peak prefit elsewhere.

lone peaks are very under rated. People who have actually cycled them say they have the lightest bolt lift and smoothest cycle. But all the impact fan boys can love on their impacts, they are an outstanding action as well. I just liked the feel of the lone peak better.

Bolt nose lengths vary a bit. But not much of an issue for the .308 bolts.
Talked to a smith about this same question when I was considering LP vs Impact. Basically said the cone angle is different and I would have less supported case if I used an impact prefit on a lone peak. I decided not worth it and just went with the Impact. Perfectly happy with it.
