So this Friday is my last day employed but we have a visit from our Grand Master in two weeks and my Sensei wants myself and 3 other brown belts tested for 1st Deg Black (Shodan)

So Sunday at 12:00 the testing begins..

If I'm able I'll write more Sunday evening LOL

I'm at work and have 2 full days with zero activity to do - it's gonna be a long day..

Re: Testing this weekend

Best of luck on the testing. Years ago, I worked at a plant and had a co-worker (that ended up on the USA Olympic Karate team) who was coming up for black belt testing. We were supposed to be out back steam cleaning valves, but he used the time to practice his Kata. It was impressive to watch, to say the least.

Hopefully the Hide keeps you entertained until end of shift.

Re: Testing this weekend

Good luck to you. In both situations...

It's funny you say that.

I decided an extra hit from my inhaler would help, adrenaline induced asthma and all.

It had the opposite effect, while sucking wind most of the Kata's I did superb in my sparring (Which is far backwards from the norm)...

I passed!

Broken ribs twice last year, fractured my thumb disarming a handgun today but Disarm I did....:)

I disarmed the knife in about 2 seconds, if that....Disarms were my strength today, and sparring...

Thanks , whew I'm beat....

Still gotta drive down to Shelton now to take my daughter home...

Congrats on your promotion ArcticLight!
I love Martial Arts but the injuries suck. Having surgery on my knee in a couple of weeks after I destroyed it at Judo a few weeks ago. I was throwing my Sensei with an uki goshi and my left foot got planted in the mat. I actually felt myself get taller for a moment when the bone came out of the socket. Wound up tearing my ACL, MCL, and menisci. Can't wait to get this crap out of the way so I can get back at it.

Re: Testing this weekend

Well done.

Re: Testing this weekend

That would be grand master David Smith - he started Spirit Force Karate, which was an offshoot from Butokukan Karate. (I study Butokukan on weekends where I wear a white belt even after 3 years!)

Really soft spoken guy, drives a Harley and all but is an EXTREMELY good teacher - very soft spoken and his heart is into teaching. I've got 2 or 3 things that I recall very well (ie keeping wrist straight in a block ) - he caught it from across the room and came running over, fixes the wrist and goes back.

Neat guy - just made him a bamboo flute yesterday, hope he's there tonight.

He's the adopted brother or step-brother to my Sensei.
