Hey guys, I am probably going to go with the Remington Sendero after seeing all of the posts on another forum, but want to make sure now. I want to replace the factory stock with a laminate thumbhole and put a good piece of glass on it. That's about it. Will this be a good 700 yard gun in .300 WINMAG? Does the gun have a fluted bull barrel or regular diameter barrel? If you have one, please respond. Thanks a lot.

Re: The .300 Sendero....

So got your danger-zone cash hell bent to buy a 300WM Sendero looking at your other post?

Laminates are nice, but generally wood is shied away from in favor of composites like manners/McM/B&C/HS Precision.

I would say spend the extra cash and get a GAP base model, or look around on the PX here there are a ton of nice custom used rifles for sale with a discount price. IE I picked up a nice GAP 300WM earlier this year for like $2000.

If you have just gotten to the box I would say you have time to wait for it at that, Set the CC on fire and go for it.

Re: The .300 Sendero....

1) Why do you want a 300WM if your max range is only 700yds? (there are plenty of other calibers that will fill the 700yd bill as adequately if not better than the 300WM, offer you cheaper ammo whether reloaded or commercial, offer you vastly better barrel life, etc., etc.)

2) Why do you want a laminated wood stock instead of a quality synthetic or chassis setup?

3) Do you have your heart set on a factory rifle? (I only ask because the Sendero rifles aren't cheap and for some more money, you can get into a custom rifle that will be a vast improvement over the stock Sendero).

All of that said...the Sendero is available now ONLY as the Sendero SF II (stainless, fluted barrel), however previous models have offered the Sendero with a standard, unfluted barrel in matte finish (you can probably still find one new or in used excellent shape if you look around).

Re: The .300 Sendero....

The barrel is a varmint profile, being 0.830" at the muzzle. The laminated stock will help to improve the balance, while detracting little from the accuracy, if bedded. However, you will be giving up the bedding blocked stock. You will probably want to replace the barrel, if fine accuracy is what you are after. Handloads will get you close, but the oversized chamber is a hurdle.
