I am 60 and have seen a lot of saber rattling but this is the actual first time in my life where I actually believe a nuclear war is possible...maybe even likely. And the initiator won't be Vlad nor Xi. It will be our very own Mr. Potato head. He is the most dangerous man in politics today. What he lacks in ruthlessness, he makes up for with dementia and a goodly amount of stupidity

The actions taken that would stumble us into a war are intentional but based on calculated risks that analysts provide the exalted rulers.

The majority of military analysts that I have met during my career could fall into a barrel of tits and still come up sucking their thumb.

The intentional nature of the decisions made, being made and yet to be made is not up for debate. I agree that they are intentional but the risk assessment that drives the intentional decisions is made by buffoons. I totally believe that nothing drives our political leadership other than financial greed and a profound sense of entitlement which is based on the position they hold and the support and blind reverence that they receive from their constituents. It is a seductive combination and not one that is easily abandoned.

They are and will fight like caged animals to ensure that their lifestyle is not disrupted

They generally do not think about what you speak of. I bet most believe that they are on the path of righteousness and it is their duty to be "good citizens". Why do you think most find ownership of firearms abhorrent? Why do they not know how to grow food and capture water. You see, it is because they believe in the "it isn't my job" syndrome. I don't need a gun because it is not my job to protect myself or my family...the police do that. I don't need to grow food or scrounge water, I go to the supermarket...they are "too good" for these mundane activities. They do not possess the strength of character to ever be able to defend themselves or live in a world without order. The thought of an unordered world where they will have to be responsible for their own well being scares them and that is why they label people that do as crazies.

Until something changes the perceived quality of the life they enjoy, there is no impetus for change. When it finally does happen, well, there will be food for the rest of us

2. They control a standing LEO/military force that can be mobilized against its own citizens more quickly than to a foreign country.
3. Most of the 350 million believe in the Rule of Law and it would take a lot to make them violate that belief.

The gist of the article to focus on is that there is nothing to prevent the build-up of Chinese military forces in that region of water surrounding Taiwan.

My belief is that Xi and Vlad are colluding because our own Mr. Potato Head doesn't know what day it is and his VP is being kept out of the limelight since she is a complete and utter idiot. She is keeping our Senators happy in her chambers...

I believe this is true regarding all of them on both sides of the isle; that’s why they almost universally hated Trump as his motivations did not align with theirs and that scared them. If you want to see a funny movie accurately depicting this dynamic in action, watch “Don’t Look UP”. I can’t believe Hollywood got it this correct for once. I’m sure they made this up thinking it’s funny, but it’s exactly what would happen right now if an asteroid was headed to earth. Our politicians really are that self absorbed, ignorant, and foolish.

You'd be surprised how accurately Hollywood predicts the future. Go watch any old movie or TV show. They are full of "satire" and "what ifs" that has become reality 10-20 years after the fact.

And the show "Chuck" also makes reference to the political interests that the US has in a destabilized "Costa Gravas" (the show's fictional version of Venezuela).
