I've been using Shooter for about seven months now and love it. I have tried Strelock, but it has been only recently it has been updated to include the Gen 2 XR reticle from Premier. One deal-sealer for me with Shooter was the Bluetooth plugin for my Kestrel.

***Ronin***, Thanks for posting about the Reticle Ranger. Shooter has been out for quite a while and there are many posts here about it, but the RR was news...at least to me.

Go to the Android Market (app should already be on your phone). It's free, and you don't need to use any <span style="text-decoration: line-through">digital herpes</span> social networking to access it.

Re: The Ballistics Calculator - Android phones

Yasherka Thank you I know it said it was free. But I didn't want to down load it and then find out it was being charged to my phone.

Re: The Ballistics Calculator - Android phones

Use both apps, they work great. Data has always been right on.

No worries bro. Everything is F-R-E-E, that spells FREE...as in FREE Android app for me! LoL

Re: The Ballistics Calculator - Android phones

I have been testing Shooter now for about a month. I run it against several programs on my laptop and I find Shooter is very accurate. Especially when you get into G7 data. I have taken chrono readings at the muzzle and then again out at 100 yards, measure the bullet, find the BC for the bullet at different velocities and use my Kestrel for the weather data. I find the more information you can put into the program, the more accurate it is.

Having said that, I also have Strelok... but have not used it very extensively. Reticle Ranger is also very fast, and accurate. But, Shooter has the same interface built into it. If you use the Ranging Tool in Shooter, it adjusts your table to show your data out to the range you are inputting.

My ONLY complaint is not the program's fault. When I am lying on the line, in the bright sun... my EVO is very hard to read. We do a lot of shooting at unknown distances at work, so I've been able to test the Shooter program out to various distances and find that the EVO drops the ball in terms of screen visibility in the bright sun. The Shooter program is a damn good one for the money.

I've definitely gotten my money out of it.

The support is excellent too! I like the "Litz" data... it's spot on.

Here I am at work, using the SHOOTER program on my EVO...

I don't have the phone yet. But I need one for personal use when I travel for work.

Re: The Ballistics Calculator - Android phones

@Don-n-Texas

Make sure its a Android phone, not apple iphone and not even Nokia.

Nokia has its own system called "Symbian" or something. (Don't know what they was thinking not joining on the ride of Android (thats why their stocks have fallen and no interest out there for Nokia)

The most popular is the HTC, Samsung, Motorola, few more out there but only used the mentioned and you won't go wrong with them.

U just have to figure out the model which u prefer from the brands i mentioned.

Or check this site to compare or read more about them:

Stay frosty all...

Re: The Ballistics Calculator - Android phones

Thank you Ronin

I was thinking of getting this phone here.

LG Optimus S™

Android™ meets affordability

http://phandroid.com/lg-optimus-s/

I'm into affordability.

What need it for is emails, Internet I can enter IP addresses. (I got internet one time then couldn't enter IP addresses)

Maybe espn apps news apps and then the Strelok

What do you think

Re: The Ballistics Calculator - Android phones

Never really owned a LG mobiles before but had a flat-screen from them which was a great quality...

I didn't get why you was interested in entering IP addresses ?

Is there something i am missing out that i should know about ?

I would like to know...

Knowledge is power =)

Stay frosty...

Re: The Ballistics Calculator - Android phones

Is there any way Strelok can get the new GAP G2 reticle?? That would be sweet since I'm getting one through the group buy. How can we make this happen??

Again I said I was a dinosaur LOL

If you want to type in a web site address isn't that called a IP address.

If not then what ever that is called.

Once I learned how to down load porn and gun stuff I ended my tech training. lol

I am kidding of course lol

Thank you for your help

Re: The Ballistics Calculator - Android phones

ahh.. now i get it..

The IP address is actually something else. It actually tells you from where you are located or which computer to be exact. All internet provider gives out a specific IP addresse to the endusers so they can be ID'ed. Kinda like a finger print but there is ways to distort them (Hackers know how) (little bedtime reading: http://computer.howstuffworks.com/internet/basics/question549.htm)

What you meant was a web-addresse or internet site. All Android phones are able to type an web-addresse... either by 3G/4G network or by WI-FI (its wireless internet from your router or on other people routers if they didn't put a code on. And many places have WI-FI hotspots kinda like free internet at certain places)
Don't really know how it is at the states but it should be kinda the same as Denmark.

Hope i didn't confused you more... or else Google is your best friend =)

Stay frosty...

Re: The Ballistics Calculator - Android phones

Thank you again

I have a company computer, but I don't want any of my personal stuff on their computer.

And I don't want to carry around two computers.

Re: The Ballistics Calculator - Android phones

If you don't mind the small screen size then the smartphones is one of the best to go... unless u need something with big screen like a IPad size.. Which many others then apple makes them and they come with Android system:

Like these:

Re: The Ballistics Calculator - Android phones

FWIW:
Shooter works very well on the Casio Commando......Casio's ruggedized Android phone.

The Casio GPS is very fast....typical time-to-fix is 3 seconds or so.

Re: The Ballistics Calculator - Android phones

I have Strelok also and like it very well. He is constantly updating the app to include more scopes.

Re: The Ballistics Calculator - Android phones

For the Iphone I like bullet drop, it is free and works awesome. I used it Sunday out to 800 yards and was dead on.

As long as you know BC, velocity, sight in distance and sight in height.

Re: The Ballistics Calculator - Android phones

If you want specific reticles adding to Strelok, you can email the developer (Igor) via the app. If you can provide the specs for the reticle, or a link to them, that will help him.

Re: The Ballistics Calculator - Android phones

many thanks furtaker_.223 downloaded and will try it on range soon.

And his Paid app, Shooter, has this function built into it already.
No need to transfer distance from one program to the other.

The only app I've seen called "Shooter" is from developer, seankndy. It is also $9.99. If this is the same one you are talking about, is it worth the 10 bucks? I have been using "Strelok" in conjunction with "Reticle Ranger", mainly because I'm pretty cheap and they are both free. Don't mind to pay for something that would be much better though.

Reticle Ranger and Shooter are both written by the same developer.
Shooter actually contains all the function of Reticle Ranger, but it is built into the app so the resulting distance automatically appears in the range field of the app.
It has many other good features as well.

Sure its worth it.
I remember when a dedicated ballitic app was much more expensive and had a lot less features than Shooter. It is certainly worth the price, especially whencompared to the thousands we spend on weapon and scope, and hundreds a year or more on ammo. $10.00 is nothing if you look at the overall cost of shooting sports; it wouldn't pay the taxes on what many of us spend every month for shooting replated supplies and gear.

There is an entire thread dedicated to Shooter here:
http://www.snipershide.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=1560171&page=1
Many aspects of Shooter were devolped by the author from his direct communications with Hide members in that thread.

Check it out!

Re: The Ballistics Calculator - Android phones

say a person buys an android type phone , do you have to have the phone service too ?
ie..buy phone off e-bay and download apps just for ballistics use ? or does phone have to be activated thru ,,sprint or Att etc..??
yes I'm old too

Re: The Ballistics Calculator - Android phones

As I understand it, Market apps are tied into your GMail acount, so you should not have to have phone service.

Re: The Ballistics Calculator - Android phones

I read up on Shooter, and it does sounds impressive. It claims that it uses GPS to automatically input environmental conditions which is very cool. I think I will try it out.

Re: The Ballistics Calculator - Android phones

Shooter is a great app, even without GPS or a Kestrel. I have used it for dope for .308, .338 Lapua, .50 bmg, .223/5.56, and .300wsm, and it always gets me close enough to be useful, even if I am guessing at velocity.

Re: The Ballistics Calculator - Android phones

+1 for Shooter

I don't have a chronograph, but i've been estimating my velocity based on ballistic reports in the other board. The dope from Shooter has been reliable. Was shooting at steel out to 1000 yards last weekend, and the dope was spot on. The only problem was the shooter and the poor wind estimation skills.

It is a nice feature but just a heads up. It will use to the GPS and automatically input data from a nearby weather station.

In general it will be good enough for most applications but for extreme ranges or situations when you are far far away from a nearby weather station, a kestrel is good to have.

Re: The Ballistics Calculator - Android phones

i like the night force balistic program my self cost about 100 but worth it

Re: The Ballistics Calculator - Android phones

+1 for Shooter. I have been using it long enough to trust it in any situation, a very accurate program.

Re: The Ballistics Calculator - Android phones

Okay, I've been playing around with Shooter, and it is pretty cool. The atmospheric conditions that it automatically enters is accurate...I happen to have a weather station located at a local airport.
However, I was playing around with different ranges, to see what adjustments the app calculated, and was surprised...
I am using Sierra 175gr Match in .308, with a 100 yrd zero and according to the app, at 1000yrs my elevation adjustment would only be +1.1 mils(+11 clicks)??? I have never shot near that distance before, don't really have anywhere around here with that kind of clear distance, but that doesn't seem like much adjustment for .308 at that range.
Could that be accurate?

Is this from the table or solution function? You wouldn't happen to be misreading the windage value in the table would you?

I was shooting at a 1000 yards this last weekend, and with my 175 grn SMK load, plus environmental effects, my elevation adjustment was +10.0 mils, and windage was L 1.5 mils

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">Is this from the table or solution function? You wouldn't happen to be misreading the windage value in the table would you?</div></div>

This was from the solution function, I haven't really fooled with the table function yet.
The atmospheric conditions show my Density Alt. to be 3143 ft., which is correct. But if I use, Adaptive's FDAC. At that density alt it shows to correct +10.8 mils @ 1000yrds. That's quite a big difference.

Re: The Ballistics Calculator - Android phones

Another Shooter fan...I've used it to 1,025 yards and it's been on.

Re: The Ballistics Calculator - Android phones

Figured out that my problem turned out to be, that I am an idiot. I had changed the default setting in the rifle data section called Elevation Correction, from 1 to 0.1. My scope adjusts in 1/10 Mils and I thought that was what this section called for.
Did not realize that it was for adjusting for errors until I read the info on the Shooter web page.
It is spot on now. Will definitely be using this app!

Re: The Ballistics Calculator - Android phones

I was disappointed to find out that Shooter requires Android 1.6 and my Motorola phone is locked at 1.5 forever unless I want to crack it and risk it becoming bricked

I did this with the new SS scope and he is working on adding it to the program. He was fast as heck getting back to me as well.

If you buy say an Iphone off eBay, you do not have to have phone service as long as your app don't require you to use the internet. If you have internet service at home and you have a wireless router/modem you can load any app on the Iphone. Outside of the house you will not be able to use the internet to download any other app unless you are somewhere where there is free WiFi. But once the app say bullet drop or mil dot just open it and your good to go.

Re: The Ballistics Calculator - Android phones

And of course it doesn't have to be iPhone - iPod Touch 4 does the ballistic job perfectly well (ask me how I know

), and is quite a bit cheaper.

Re: The Ballistics Calculator - Android phones

Are there any updates to this?
I just got Samsung Galaxy S™ II Skyrocket™ Android Smartphone and want a good app, I'll pay if it's worth a crud.
